  1. Agree with Andy, Sills , Sills, Sills, mine goes in for a full winter check next week which includes sill covers removal and any preventive measures required to keep the rust at bay.

    EGR

EGR valves £162+ vat from jaguar including gasket, i know this because just gone through the same problem, total price including fitting was £240, for the drivers side only, it took my mechanic an hour and a half to fit and I was pleasantly suprised by very little carbon build up. Hope your cat purrs from now on. Regards
  3. Mike, do you find there is a variation at which the box changes up from cold to hot, if I hold at 2000 rpm cold the gear changes are considerably slower than when the fluid is hot, just wondering if this is common to this model as this is not consistant with the box in my XJ8.
  4. Thinking of having the fluid changed in the auto box, gear changes being a little erratic at the moment, to me there seems to be a little too much variation on the up changes between gearbox cold 2.5 revs, and gearbox hot 2.0 revs, it also seems to hold 5th for what seems like an eternity. I would be obliged if anybody could furnish me with any info concerning the speed/revs that the gears change up. Regards all
  5. Cheers Peter, just hope this is the last fault before Christmas, beer and whiskey to buy.
  6. Anybody know how long it takes to change the drivers side EGR, just picked one up from jag dealer for what I thought was a very reasonable £193 Inc so just wanted to know how much to install. The cars been spoilt of recent times, New vacuum pump, New servo, New mintex discs and pads, was going to treat it to a waxoyl treatment till this latest fault raised its head. Surely nothing else can go wrong, or can it?
  7. Cheers all for the info, will just keep an eye on the situation
  8. I can do that , giz us a job!
  9. Wouldn't know where to look for it, it's the "a valve" I drive Them I don't repair them, those days are long gone. However if it's just a matter of a spray can I could manage that. Just have to make sure I don't tell her indoors that I tried to fix something, it could open the floodgates to household repairs, doesn't bear thinking about. REGARDS Ian
  10. Cheers Peter, just had diagnostic done turns out the EGR is shot, so another call is imminent to RAC warranty, i'll be on their Christmas card list soon. REGARDS Ian
  11. Can anyone on here furnish me with the up change speeds of the 6 speed auto gearbox, on cold it wont change into top until 75mph when the car has been for a run this alters to 50 ish, could this also be the reason for the restricted performance message if kick down is attempted, which after a stop dissapears, does anybody have any ideas, could it be sticking solanoid, transmission fluid requires changing or is this the normal working of this particular gearbox, I have never had this problem with the XJ. I value the input of all members of the forum. Regards All
  12. Let you know in 500 miles Paul
  13. Cheers for the suggestion Paul, on reflection I think it may be my fault, filled up yesterday at Costco, so it may just be as simple as cheap fuel, so after 400 or so miles hope all will be well. Premium fuel in future. PS if I leave it ticking over fault disappears after 5 mins or so, it may have been an injector, EGR, lambda or other sensors that just to a dislike to the fuel.
  14. Afternoon all, as some of you may be aware just had servo and vacuum pump renewed, no problems there, take it out this morning, all ok until I heavy foot it to overtake some numpty combing his hair in the mirror, what do you know? restricted performance on kick down, also got the message on starting a few times, turn off, turn on again all is well. The car revs well up to its limits, so I am at a loss, can't see it being anything to do with the brakes, was thinking DPF, although it had a motorway run of 40 miles yesterday, could be something as simple as the air filter, just don't know, please don't let it be the Turbo. Any ideas guys
  15. Got the car back today, New vacuum pump and new servo fitted cost met by both the RAC WARRANTY £1000 plus the difference paid by the DEALER £484. Cannot praise the dealer, Culshaw and Son, of Burnley, highly enough for their integrity in dealing with this problem. The brakes are now operating perfectly only light pressure required to bring the car to a stop. Next stop ATS for new discs and pads £438, thought I would treat the old girl. REGARDS all, till next time.
  16. Had the car booked in today for discs and pads at ATS £448 today, then I get a phone call from the mechanics after the road test from the New vacuum pump install, why?, I hear you ask, well apparently the servo has now decided to say farewell, I assume from oil ingress from what was the faulty pump, there followed frantic calls to RAC warranty people who in their infinite wisdom have decided to foot the total bill £1384. Who said these warranties are not worth the paper there written on? I think I have just been extremely lucky to have found a garage that has fought my corner.
  17. Just thought I would fill you all in, the latest news on the brake fade saga. All tests carried out, and lo and behold it's the vacuum pump, so £346 later and labour on top, the car now sports a new Bosch pump all done on the RAC Warranty, still going to treat the old girl to a new set of discs ready for winter, what's the average price, I'm assuming around the £500 mark. What you all think.
  18. HELLO ALL, FROM SUNNY MANCHESTER
  19. Booked the car in today for whatever repairs it needs to facilitate braking, dealer true to his word didn't argue just assured me the lack of vacuum pressure would be addressed, so thought to myself that I would treat the old girl to a set of new discs, just awaiting quote, will keep you informed.
  20. Hi Paul, didn't want to reply before I had further info, talked to the dealer this evening and he has assured me that the fault whatever it turns out to be will be repaired under the warranty supplied by him so hopefully won't have to use RAC warranty, the limit for works on the RAC paperwork being £1000, so should manage to get it done either way. Fingers crossed. Regards Ian
  21. So. Had the fluid changed, and as we all thought no change, so did all the normal tests one can do, foot on brake pedal, started engine, felt pedal depress appeared ok, however moved on to next test, engine running, foot hard on brake pedal, turned engine off , felt substantial rise on pedal suggesting loss of vacuum pointing at either Servo or Vacuum pump, so going to try claim on warranty initially with dealer then with RAC WARRANTY. How do you rate my chances Guys..... 1 being no freaking chance and 5 being yippee I got a free servo
  22. Spent a bit of time on tinternet last night after which, I agree with Garry, the cost is steep but this was the first quote and I will shop around, this was main dealer after all. I Must also agree with Paul that loss of servo pressure under braking is the major problem, but as with my XJ the fluid was changed at 75000 the S Type having covered 95000 needs the same love and affection, after which the system pressure will be tested. Will keep you posted. REGARDS Ian
  23. Just keeping you all up to speed on the brake fade saga, it's booked in for a fluid change on Friday, so will keep you all informed. Also priced up full disc and pads change £590, not a bad price I thought, what do you all think (genuine parts). PS fluid change £39
  24. Thanks Paul, that equates to 0.024 bar so I don't know what book I was reading, thanks again for the info all, will update when solution is found. REGARDS Ian
  25. Cheers guys, think in the first instance going to get the fluid changed and the system bled, just for my own peace of mind, then move on from there, anyone know the operating pressure of the servo/vacuum system?, think I read somewhere its round about -0.8 bar, don't like getting something tested without prior knowledge of some kind. Any and all info gratefully received. Regards Ian
