  1. I own a 2007/8 diesel which gave me a little scare yesterday, leaving the motorway and approaching a rounderbout, slowly braking with steady pressure on the pedal i became aware the brakes appeared to be fading away, and no extra pedal pressure seemed to effect any further stopping. This problem only appears from speed over a distance, normal day to day driving is not affected, leading me to believe that this is either a vacuum pump or servo problem. The car has covered 95000 mls, new pads 1000 mls ago. Wondering if any of you good people can shed any light on this, will I benefit from a change of fluid/bleed etc., or has anyone had a similar experience. Your views and assistance would be appreciated. Regards Ian
  2. Thank you all for the info, will probe all possibilities for a solution, apart from my wife's " put some nail varnish on it". You just got to love them Havn't you.
  3. Thanks Phillip, think I will give the internet some time, thanks for the info, do you have any recommendations as to products. Regards Ian
  4. Has anyone had cause to repair/retouch the leather in their car, I have a few small spots on the drivers seat that require colour, it appears that a previous owner has snagged the seat top that has scratched the finish down to the base uncoloured leather, my question is, has anyone tried a leather dye or similar to fade the dark spots ? And if so what were the results. Thanks in advance.
  5. Cheers Paul, knew that about the slide , Same set up as my XJ8, just never have it in the forward position, always got a bottle of water in the armrest
  6. Cheers Peter, thanks for looking, will check out Just Jags, although £50 odd pounds seems a tad expensive for a couple of holes. Maybe a scrap yard would be the way to go, although never been in one of those in my life. On an aside are they plastic, leather covered or wood grain. REGARDS Ian
  7. Peter, could I ask a favour of you, if it's not too much trouble could you possibly check eBay and get back to me with the link for the offending cup holder, you know what it looks like, I haven't got a clue. Many thanks Ian.
  8. Just upgraded satnav software to 2011-2012 thought it would be difficult, GOOD NEWS it wasn't, disc only cost £25 literally took 5 mins. If your thinking of doing this don't hesitate just do it.
  9. Cheers Peter, have to look for one, keep spilling my whiskey.
  10. Just wondering, is th S type centre console meant to provide facilities for cup holding, recently purchased this car , and just forward of the center armrest is a large square void that is presently being used for small change storage (currently standing at £62. 46p). Is there some sort of insert meant to sit in said aperture to provide the facility required. REGARDS all
  11. Big day today guys, going to pick my latest acquisition up later today, a gleaming late 2007 Claret red S type diesel, 91000 on the clock, full jaguar history from day one, beige showroom condition leather, chrome pack, all the usual toys, even got the dealer to renew all brake pads, lower control arms and 2 New tyres, think I paid top dollar at £6250 but looking at the car I think it warrants it. What do you think?
  12. Hi Guys, just thought I'd let you know, that illusive knock on the front nearside corner turned out to be a defective lower control arm, it's taken 4 mechanics at 2 different garages just over 4 days, however the guy that located it said it only showed up when the car was on level ground and not on the ramp, maybe something to consider when any other knocks arise. What do you all think?

  14. Malcolm, they have already renewed all pads, so that covers the brakes, and Steve thanks for the idea hadn't even thought of asking them to check that, this is driving everyone nuts as the car drives perfectly until it hits an uneven surface, I've owned over 10 XJs and have never come across this before. We will just have to keep on looking, will post any info we find Malcolm to see if it aids you in your quest. REGARDS. PS please keep the ideas coming.
  15. Just bought the 2007 S type diesel I've been contemplating over but not took delivery yet, The reason being a front end knock when driven over anything other than a smooth road. Had the anti roll bar bushes renewed to no avail, it's been up on a ramp for most of the day with three mechanics under it but they in their wisdom are still unable to trace the offending fault, looking for ideas as to where the problem lies. Looking for ideas guys as I know nothing about this model, is the suspension adaptive, could it be top mounts or maybe shocks? So come on my friends what could it be, want to pick my new baby up soon, REGARDS
  16. I think he already has my mark, not picked the car up yet and already having him replace bushes on the front end, also told him that when I pick it up on Sat. I want access to a hydraulic ramp to view the underside, did the same with my Mercedes and I'm positive the dealers sick of me there too.
  17. Nice to know it's priced about right, there's a 6 month RAC warranty on the car, and I know what your going to say! " not worth the paper it's printed on" but hey ho it comes with the car so it's there if need be, but as you know the old cherry "sorry sir it's fair wear and tear" is there answer to everything.
  18. Cheers Peter, the car in question is a Claret red diesel with 91000 miles and a price of £6250, I don't know if this is a little over the odds but the car does have a full history with fully stamped book at the correct intervals. The only thing I noticed was a knock from the front end over uneven roads, which the dealer said he would attend to before collection, so we will see. Best regards Ian
  19. Can anyone offer any info on the rusty sills saga that plague the s type, just thinking of purchasing a claret red late 2007 model, have they cured the rusty sills problem that was so prevalent on the earlier model's or is it still something to beware of. Would also welcome any other info on what to look for, I have previously owned many Sovereigns over the years but never had an s type so any advice would be gratefully received. REGARDS
  20. Just popping in to say Hello to you all. Looking forward to reading and contributing to the forums, owned Jags for over 40 years and long may it continue.
