  1. Its a 2002 facelift 2.5. The fans are working and i should have mentioned that there was plenty of steam leaving the bonnet area when parked up in the layby. My plan was to change the thermostat first or even just remove it and see what happens rather than pay out for the thermostat. Like you say it may be the pump.
  2. Well just to add further problems to my s type ownership I had an overheating issue last night which resulted in my last 1 1/2 mile journey home taking over an hour. I looked down to see the temp gauge all the way into the red and i immediately pulled into a layby. I waited half an hour for it to cool down and then checked the coolant level which was fine. I managed another half a mile or so and the temp needle flew into the red at an alarming rate so pulled into the next layby and repeated the process until i eventually got home. I remember turning the aircon off a minute or so before this happened. I recall briefly turning the aircon off a few weeks ago and steam started to come from under the bonnet, i immediately turned it back on and this sorted it. anyone have any ideas what could have caused this overheating issue.
  3. Keep us updated. If it works I will have to look further for a garage that will do it for mine.
  4. Will have to look elsewhere to get it done.
  5. Rang them this morning and they won't do it. They said it doesn't work and customers were wasting money doing it. They are a good independent jag garage aswell.
  6. Have been to stratstone jaguar and they told me they don't do the software upgrade. Got the impression they were only interested in dealing with people who had big wads of cash to buy new cars. But stuck now really.
  7. I wrnt to transmission specialist yesterday and they told me they could only fit new gearboxes and would cost over 2k to do. Said they couldn't programme 2nd hand gearboxes so they were ruled out.
  8. Thanks for your reply, that is a good link for jag spares.
  9. Forgot to ask, what is the cost to have the software upgraded.
  10. Thanks, I will speak to my local Jag independant tomorrow.
  11. Can anyone advise me if the 6 speed auto gearbox is the same for both the 2.5 and 3.0 model. Mine is the '02 facelift so are all the gearboxes compatable after this date. Thanks in advance.
  12. I have the same problem with my gearbox, the slamming when changing down and also the noise from the convertor. Could it be I only need the software update as I have been looking at getting a 2nd hand autobox fitted?
  13. Hi and thanks for the info. I have looked at them and they do look a good outfit, umfortunately they are a little too far away for me. I have rang another local company call easigears, I intend to take it to them tomorrow for them to look at. I will update when they give me an opinion.
  14. I now have a dilemma with what to do with my car. It has gearbox issues which were diagnosed a few weeks ago as the torque convertor. Today I spoke to a local transmission specialist and he said it would cost around £600 to fit a new one. I suggested getting hold of a 2nd hand gearbix off ebay, he said there are 2 types for mine which have a colour coded mark on the torque convertor which is on the inside so can only be seen when the auto box is taken out Can anyone give any advice on this situation as I haven't got £600 to sort this.
  15. 49 for me and i'm 50 now, only been driving it for a week now and love it even though it has its problems.
  16. Forgot to say the car has not been used for a couple of years, the oil was recently topped up at a transmission specialist.
  17. Thank you for the above. I plan on giving the fuel sender connection a clean first of all, but not sure how to get to it?
  18. Well had the car on a diagnostic today at Jagtech and got bad news. There was a long list of faults which effectively means it will need a replacement gearbox soon, fuel sender and maybe a new catalyst. So totally gutted, only had it on the road 6 says.
  19. I have to confess I am a complete wallop. Went to swap the battery over this morning and the negative terminal just came away in my hand, the problem was simply a loose connection. So thats a good thing really. Anyway my xtron fault decoder came this morning and gave me a number if fault codes. I used the torque app that cost something like £2.95. It is supposed to clear the codes aswell but couldn't see how to do it on my mobile. It came with a disc so may have to use a laptop for that function, its a shame it didn't come with written instructions Anyway its booked in to Jagtech in the morning and they can have a good luck at it including the dodgey fuel gauge a fuel filler.
  20. The temp needle on mine settles in the middle of the gauge, not really sure where this should be. Spare battery now on charge so fingers crossed for tomorrow morning when I try it.
  21. Ok thanks, i will try and get hold of battery charger tonight. I have a spare battery I can charge and give that a go. I think I might just have been thinking worsed case scenario. I did mention in another thread that the engine management light has been on for a few days, this may be connected. I have ordered one of those fault code readers off ebay which should be here in the next few days. Luckily I have got a week off work to get this sorted
  22. No I didn't check anything I simply got a lift home. But there are no lights at all on the dash it is totally powerless. I just dont understand how it started perfectly 30 minutes earlier with no indication of power loss.
  23. My car has just suddenly died. I drove to my in laws to do a job and when I went to leave I put the key in the ignition and it was just totally dead, absolutely nothing there at all. Its as if it has no battery fitted, what on earth could it be?
  24. Can anyone tell me where the fuel sender is or better still a picture Also which bit needs cleaning as my fuel gauge is all over the place.
  25. Thanks for the reply, the battery is new but the car has not been used for months. Will a good run charge it back up.
