Its difficult to know whether it would be cost effective to fix. A ticking noise can sometimes be a failed / sticking injector but if it is coming from behind the timing cover, it would suggest timing chain/ tensioner / guide / pulley issues ? If it is 'just' timing chain related, replacement with the upgraded items is likely to be between £2k-£3k at a specialist. If any internal engine damage is the cause of the noise, it seems that parts are tricky to source, most people then try to source a second hand engine. Prices seem to vary between £5k-£7k, but then there is the fitting cost on top. Fixed, the car is probably worth £9k-£11k, based on asking prices on Autotrader. Might be worth speaking to other Jaguar specialists to see if anyone else has come across the problem, taking a video on your phone might give them a starting point. Breaking it yourself is a hassle, some bits sell quickly, others don't, you then have to find a way to dispose of whats left. No idea what a specialist breaker would offer you as a complete car. Probably worth putting up some more details of interior / exterior colour combination and see whether there is someone on here that fancies a project ?

I don't think that all X150 models had the extra inputs ? My memory isn't what it was, but I think cars equipped with 'Premium Sound' had an extra panel in the armrest that has a USB input (for a memory stick with music on it) and a 30 pin I-POD connector ( don't think it has a 3.5 mm stereo input socket, unlike the XF) If you car doesn't have this option, there are possibly some aftermarket options available that will be fairly expensive. The cheap way to do it is to get one of the widely and cheaply available FM transmitters ? They will allow you to stream music from your phone to the device (many also have a USB input to plug in a memory stick loaded with music, SD card slot for the same purpose and AUX input socket that could be used to connect to the headphone output of your phone) The device will then output your music on a selectable FM frequency, you then just have to tune in a spare FM station to the matching frequency on the cars original audio unit. The quality of the results can vary, if you are in an area with very good FM reception, it can be tricky to find a frequency that doesn't get interference from nearby broadcast stations. These are the type of thing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=fm+transmitter&_sacat=38635&_sop=15 I have tried several different ones with varying degrees of success, strangely the best results were from one of the cheaper ones available. Looks too cheap to work but seemed OK in my X350 XJR. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235504970851?itmmeta=01J4BXZ7JHSC4F0DRS8A10T70E&hash=item36d530ac63:g:VlQAAOSwhYNduloR&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwHN8%2FBS0riu7I0yl8fuMYYo28ny1V0lSxYQKAXmujCER0aOeodXyur4EUMup0AJ3nXz1t1PZeulurxjMWBhYs8aI2BaK1pF9bmjMz3gGVvacOzDXAsyndDTdnjmEB9%2BS01ed3XMzzCOaWvrRVLtM69bxTYEAfu1cXhPaYZnO4ufT21%2BbaevSVn%2BIGmsJ2UV15EVT2S9G86yqRMFucnST9vYcwZa8IKwUrRYsU9DF9fXEAdCrnbozH8r72qkMg8vwvw%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR7T5_P2iZA&edge=0 This is only to show the version, I just found a seller with quick delivery and decent feedback.

Might be worth checking the part numbers using this link. It lists them by chassis number. https://www.sngbarratt.com/English/#/uk/FindParts/Families/XF/14/XF 2006-2016/52/EXTERIOR FITTINGS AND SUNROOF/12670/assembly/32523 One possibility for the date discrepancy on your registration document is that the car was originally a Jaguar evaluation or engineering vehicle (mostly have a reg number that starts 'VX')

Probably put it on Pistonheads or similar, with a very detailed advert providing all of the information and as many good quality photos as you can upload ? I would include pictures and details of invoices for work carried out, especially any modifications. Most Jaguar forums also have 'cars for sale' sections for members, not as much traffic as the 'usual' advertising websites but less likely to get messers and wannabe test pilots. You will also need to be realistic about your pricing, it is very rare to see much of a return on the money you have spent on modifying the car (as I know from my Subaru tuning days) The XFR is a specialised car that only appeals to a small target audience, modified ones have an even smaller pool of potential buyers. In the current climate, they are perceived to be expensive to tax and fuel, and modified cars can be difficult and expensive to insure.

Good luck with the search, something will turn up !

Tricky one. The 4.0 version of the V8 isn't for me, but it is an XKR. The later car with the 4.2 engine will also have the 6 speed XF gearbox and all of the 'ongoing' updates, but for me it is supercharged or nothing. I would try to find a 2002 onwards 4.2 XKR personally ?

I actually own a 2015 XE 3.0 V6 'S' Massively under rated when it was available new. Goes and handles brilliantly, reminds me of the BMW E30 325i's that I used to drive. As far as I know, the Ingenium timing chain job is 'engine out', the process doesn't look like much fun when I walk through our workshop and see them in bits.
-
Not just poorly serviced ones unfortunately................................
-
The 2.0 petrol engine in a 2015 XE will be the Ford Ecoboost engine, not the JLR Ingenium petrol engine fitted to later models.
-
I would have a read up on Ingenium engine failures (especially diesels) before purchasing anything fitted with one.

I seem to have fixed it ! Replaced the memory switch on the door and immediately had the correct operation of the memory functions, but still no drivers seat forward and back movement with the engine running. At this point, I thought that I was still going to need to use SDD to diagnose and possibly have to replace the seat module. Then I thought, what if it has a stored fault code generated by the faulty memory switch ? Connected my code reader and, sure enough, B1B88 was showing. Cleared the code and all working fine since then.

Recently purchased a 2010 (2011MY) XFR and a very strange fault has appeared. It has the 18 way drivers seat with memory function, everything was working fine. Then the memory switch on the door started to behave in an odd way. Usual function of this switch is to press the 'memory' button, which illuminates in amber, and then press '1' or '2' to store your settings on the desired number. To recall the previously memorised settings, just press '1' or '2' So far, so good ! Now, when I press 'memory', nothing lights up, pressing the numbered buttons does not bring up the 'memory settings saved' message on the dashboard, I deduced from this that it is not just the illumination function that has failed. If I start again from scratch having locked and unlocked the car, pressing '1' or '2' causes the amber memory light to come on (which shouldn't happen) but no 'memory setting recalled' message on the dash. I presume this problem is related to the other issue that has manifested itself on the drivers seat. If I unlock the car and get in but don't start the engine, all of the electric seat movements work, if I start the engine and then try to adjust the seat, forward and back won't work. This is puzzling because 'height' and 'tilt' are on the same 6 way switch on the seat. So far, all I have done is have a look at the seat tracks to make sure there is nothing obvious that would inhibit the forward and back movement and a battery disconnect just in case. I have also tried to establish the full extent of the 'forward and back' movement that the seat is capable of when the engine is not running. This revealed a fair amount of movement in either direction before the seat stopped. When moving the seat forward, I also found that if I held the button for another 2 seconds after it stopped, the seat then started moving forward again for quite a distance (so close that I was almost pinned to the steering wheel) I know that the '2 second press' is to allow you to override the function that cuts in if the seat thinks it has encountered an obstruction or resistance. My iCarsoft reader did reveal a fault code for the drivers seat module, B1B88 'seat slide motor relay' ? I cleared it but comes back every time I try to move the seat with the engine running. Very annoying and a bit 'random' Going to plug it in on SDD on Tuesday evening but wondered if anyone has come across this before or has any ideas or input ?

I read a post on another Jaguar forum where someone had removed the speaker grille in the centre of the dashboard to gain access to the edge of the leather covering the dashboard. He then used the type of glue used to repair rubber soled shoes, syringed in 'under' the leather through a flexible, narrow bore PVC tube. Then pulled the leather tight and stuck it back down. I have bought all the bits to try this on mine but not got round to doing it yet !

Before purchasing a Jaguar fitted with the diesel engine, you need to be sure that you will be doing the type of journeys that will suit a modern diesel . They don't tend to like lots of short journeys where they don't get up to full operating temperature (this can take up to 10 minutes !) All modern diesels are fitted with a DPF (diesel particulate filter), to help lower the vehicles emissions, these can also cause problems if the car is mainly used for short journeys and at lower speeds (town / urban driving) Jaguar have had some issues with the 2 litre Ingenium engines that have been used since 2015. Worth 'Googling' Ingenium engine problems, to get an insight. Some of the issues involve failure of the timing chains. A gearbox oil / filter change should be about £300-£400 (more expensive at a main dealer)

The tyre pressure label should give you the recommended pressures for 'standard' or 'fully laden', the standard tyre pressure is significantly lower than the one for a fully loaded car. Due to these two options, I think you can set the TPMS sensor warning for 'standard' or 'fully loaded' in the cars menu system ? Ie. If set to 'normal' load, it is looking for pressure readings dropping below (for example) 34 PSI before triggering the warning. If set to the the 'fully loaded' option, it is looking for pressures dropping below (for example) 40 PSI. This would be a possible explanation for the warning coming on for all four tyres once you dropped the pressure to 34 PSI all round ? I could be barking up the wrong tree but might be worth checking the handbook ?

Quick update. Still waiting for the ombudsman to rule on the £500 untraceable driver email. My car was advertised and sold on 'Copart' salvage auctions as a category 'N' (non structural) write off. There were no pictures on their website showing the damage to the inner sill and rear wheel / suspension. I will wait and see if it turns up for sale on Autotrader or Ebay ! For anyone that's interested, I have decided to replace it with a 2010 XFR that my friend is selling.
-
On your model year, I don't think it can be permanently switched off ? It will come back on by default every time you 'start' the car. We had a customer experiencing the same issue, JLR do not allow dealers to deactivate it. It is probably classed as an essential safety feature, for type approval or some other certification ?

Chain, search the forums for details of the problems that can affect the guides and tensioners on engines up until approximately 2012. -
SIM card data contract is 3 years, to match the original manufacturers warranty. Data allowance was 500 mb per month. 'Ubigi' were the official providers of the SIM and data plan ? https://jaguarlandrover.ubigi.com/top-up/

Some progress ! Revised offer of £10,600 from the independent valuers, glad I stood my ground, the original offer was £7000 ! I think this is more realistic and have accepted the offer, funds in my account within 24 hours. Now waiting for the salvage company to contact me to arrange collection, pretty sure I will get emotional when it goes. Still having an ongoing battle with the insurer though, regarding the provisions of the 'legal protection' policy that they sold me. I quote from their email dated 7th March 2023: We have recently been advised of an incident involving your vehicle. We are writing to remind you that you opted for the following Policy Upgrades when you bought your motor insurance and may be eligible to claim off one or more of them: Motor Legal Protection - covers you for £100,000 of legal expenses to recover compensation for personal injury and other uninsured losses (such as your excess) in the event of an incident that is not your fault, as long as there's a reasonable chance your claim will succeed. It also covers you for a £500 payment if you're hit by an uninsured or untraced driver. If you are looking to make a claim on your Motor Legal Protection please call ------------- The wording appears unambiguous to me, the driver fled the scene, we have no registration number, the police have been unable to secure a vehicle identification from CCTV footage, therefore, he (or she) is 'untraceable' I have politely requested my £500, they have then attempted to pass the responsibility to a third party company that underwrites the policy and tell me that my request has been declined because there is no 'third party' to claim from. I less politely pointed out that, surely, this is the textbook definition of an 'untraceable driver' and that their own email alerted me to the fact that I can claim in these circumstance, furthermore, I was sold the policy by them (my motor insurance provider) and that any dispute regarding the payout is between them and the company they have chosen to farm the policy out to, rather than an issue that involves me. Every time I call the insurer, I get someone different, invariably 'working from home', who then tells me that this particular bit of motor insurance claims is not within their field of expertise. Can't help myself and then have to ask 'why are you answering the phone for the claims department then ?' Now waiting for 'a manager' to call me on Monday, having had to forward them their own email to reveiw the content ! Only £500 but for me, it's the principle. My personal theory is that this email is a generic one that goes out to anyone who makes a claim and has legal protection 'flagged' on the system, and has probably not been amended for years. I am betting that in the past the policy did cover 'untraced drivers', but the current provider does not offer this benefit ? Just a minor bit of mopping up really, I consider that I have already won the war. Now to decide what to do next ? Another X350 XJR ? X150 XKR (4.2) ? XFR ? or............................. Audi RS6 Avant 4.2 V8 Bi-turbo (a fast wagon would be handy and the only Jaguar equivalent is the XFR-S Sportbrake, very rare and way above my budget)

Thanks everyone for your input and best wishes. Sues back pain is currently manageable and does not seem to be getting any worse. The X-RAY's thankfully showed that none of the 'iron work' have moved. Not had any updates from the police, as expected. Any CCTV footage that might have identified the vehicle is likely to have been overwritten by now. Waiting for my insurers chosen 'independent valuer' (surely a contradiction in terms ?) to contact me. The car is on my driveway, I have the other two Jags to drive plus the company one, so no urgency on my part to agree a hasty settlement. If I am not happy with the final offer, i will suggest that we get an 'independent valuer' appointed by me (fair's fair ?) and pay for an inspection from one of the Jaguar Drivers Club experts. There is a lot of cash that would need to be spent to get the car back to 'pre-accident' condition, whilst I love my car (it was my 50th birthday present), a 'money no object' rebuild is not on the cards.

Thank you, I have spoken to a few people regarding repairs to a proper standard. It just isn't viable to pay to fix it, there is too much damage requiring expensive parts and a lot of labour. One well respected repairer that is used by my fellow members of JDC Area 18 has viewed the photographs and said that he would not even take on the work.
