  1. Hi Liam, Yes I had exactly the same problem and finished up replacing the turbo. The warranty outfit refused to pay out as they said there was signs of carbon in the turbo. After some words with the garage that I bought the car from, as I had only had the car for a few weeks. The garage were very good and paid for the new turbo. This was all 20,000 miles ago and not had any problem since. My car has now done 112,000 miles and I love it. Cheers Rod
  2. Thanks to everyone for your help. Replace front wheel bearings and noise has now gone. The nearside bearing where the noise seemed to be coming from was very rusty when we got it out. Front bearings come in a kit so you dont have to replace complete hub. many thanks
  3. Hi Frank, Thanks for that. Interesting video. All the things he mentioned in the video have been checked. Do you know if the front wheel bearings can be replaced on their own without replacing the complete hub, like the rears?
  4. Hi Gary, Thanks for that. I will check temperatures of both front bearings and finish up replacing them. I will let you know. Cheers Rod
  5. swapped wheels front to rear but noise is still the same. Now going to check temperature of wheel bearings after a run to see if both sides of car are similar I will let you know the outcome. I`m begining to think its a overheating wheel bearing. Cv joints are ok. Cheers Rod
  6. Thanks Jo. I will give that a try. Cheers Rod
  7. Any idea what sort of job it is to replace universal joints anyone? Cheers Rod
  8. Hi everyone, my 2009 x type estate diesel auto is a great car, but I have a noise from the front that sounds just like a tyre flat spot. So replaced tyres but no different. Checked wheel bearings but all ok. When wheels are straight ahead the noise is still there but when lock is applied it gets much worse. I`m starting to think it could be drive shaft joint problem. Anyone any iseas? thanks Rod
  9. Now sorted rear wiper problem. Removed the arm then nut , then removed circlip, (managed to lose it on gravel drive), removed spindle from inside cleaned with fine emery, greased and put back with new circlip. Now works like new.
  10. Hi Paul, I also had a Rover 75 Tourer diesel auto with BMW engine. Great car but 240,000 miles and corroded subframe it had to go. Now have 2009 X type estate diesel auto with 100,000 on the clock. Really nice car to drive and good performance incl towing our caravan. Have had a few issues with it like replacing the turbo and egr valve and a couple of injectors. Love the interior with black leather. I would go for the X type but be prepared for things needing attention. Got spoilt with the Rover!! Cheers Rod
  11. Thanks Joe. I will try doing as you suggest. I will let you know the outcome. Cheers Rod
  12. I have a 2009 X type estate and the rear wiper started going very slowly and then stopped half way along its travel. Help please.
  13. Hi, Are these shown on the tyre data plate next to drivers door? Mine are 17" but dont think the 18" will be any different. Hope this helps Cheers Rod
  14. Good morning Mike, I get a similar thing with my X type but only happens occasionally. I checked everything I could think of and all was ok. When it was at the garage having injectors sorted I mentioned it to the mechanic and he thought it was the dpf filter going through its regeneration process at 600 degrees. I have got used to it now, but it does smell like hot plastic. Dont know if your S type has a dpf filter or not. Cheers Rod
  15. If its like my 2.2 there will be a tyre information label near the hinges of the drivers door giving the tyre sizes fitted to your car. hope this helps cheers Rod
  16. Hi Jim, I`m from Hull originally but now live in Holderness near Roos. Cheers Rod
  17. Hi David, Welcolme to the club from fellow X Type owner and yorkshire man.!! Cheers Rod
  18. Hi Lesley, I have the same cable and connector on my 2008 2.2 x type and I think it is for some optional extra that is not fitted to my car. I had a hot plastic smell after a slow speed journey and took it to garage and they suggested it was the dpf filter that was doing its regeneration at approx 600 degrees and not to worry. Its not done it since. I suspect that your car does not have a dpf filter. Was the engine temp gauge normal? Check that electric fan is working ok. Hope this helps. Cheers Rod
  19. Hi everyone. Just been with my xType diesel auto along with our caravan to East Kirkby Airfield in Lincolnshire. The home of Lancaster "Just Jane" It was a great weekend of air displays and over 200 classic and exotic cars. The Xtype behaved her self all weekend. To view East Kirkby web site, go into Lincs aviation. Cheers Rod
  20. Hi David, Thanks for your reply. I will now have a look at drive shafts/ universal joints etc. Cheers Rod
  21. Someone just mentioned that a thumping noise from the nearside could be a flywheel problem. Do automatics and manuals have the same system? I have this type of noise on my 2.2 diesel auto and have changed tyres but noise remains My next check was going to be drive shafts etc. Any help would be good. Cheers Rod
  22. Hi John, Fairly sure it will be the master cylinder. Needs replacing. Cheers Rod
  23. Hi Dan, I`ve got a similar problem with my 2008 diesel auto. When I bought it last Sept it had a noise like a flat spot on a tyre. I replaced the fronts as these were the most worn. This didn`t make any difference. I then replaced the rear discs and tyres but still no change. I am beginning to think that it could be a drive shaft. I intend to investigate this later in the year. Let us know if you make any progress. Cheers Rod
  24. Is it possible to get DAB radio on all touch screen radios or just certain models? Cheers Rod
  25. Good morning members, I know this is not strictly a Jaguar thing but I am clearing out my office and have approx 20 complete years of Motor Sport magazines. They are all wrapped and in very good condition. If anyone is interested in buying them please contact me for full list. Cheers Rod
