  1. I have a 61 plate early facelift 2.2 XF with HID lights. Over the last few days I had a headlight and occasional LED light problem on the offside. It started out initially fine then the headlight just turned itself off. The short term fix was "turn it off and turn if back on again" (really... - but I did have to lock and unlock it). There was no dash warning light of any problem. I inferred from the symptoms that it was a software problem as the car believed the lights were fine and the fault was intermittent. I took it into a dealer (car under used car warranty) and after some fussing about (decidedly underwhelmed by my first Jag dealer service experience), they reset the software. I was told there was an outstanding software fix which hadn't been done on my car. Car was with the dealer for about an hour. Three days later all seems well. Hope that helps.
  2. Thought I would share the detail to the recent Terraclean of my car as I hadn't seen others who have had it done on a 2.2 XF. I have a 61 plate 2.2 XF. I thought others may appreciate the detail on what is a reasonably expensive process (£126). The note below is unapologetically a little nerdy! I bought the car a couple of months ago and it had done 67,000 miles. I have always used Shell regular diesel and got 45mpg over 3000 miles from mixed driving, with a fair amount of motorway. This is my first XF and the first auto for a while so had nothing to compare to. I ran Redex cleaner through when I bought it but didn't see any difference. I took the car in for a Terraclean on Monday and immediately noticed it was much smoother with what felt like slightly earlier and smoother gear changes. I have driven about 600 miles this week for work, a fair amount on motorways, with a lot of stop start in traffic and navigating in an out of a few major cities on the way. The overall MPG is now 50.2 and at one point saw nearly 60mpg. Yesterday I was 'making ground' on the M40 and MPG dipped to 48. Using the 'auto' mpg setting my sense is that there is a small (5-10%) increase in MPG in mixed mode driving vs constant speed driving where there a consistently +10% increase. In the latter case I use the cruise control and use the paddles in D to keep in 8th when I want to overtake on the motorway. To complete the detail my car is running on 18 inch Vela wheels and Pirelli P zeros inflated to 2.1 bar (as per handbook). Overall I had the car Terraclenaed with the hope of a small increase in fuel economy. The results have exceeded my expectations from an MPG perspective with around an extra 60+ miles a tank . In addition the smoothness has improved.
  3. I have a 61 plate 2.2 which I bought recently and am getting around 47mpg after a couple of tankfuls. This is my first auto for a while and am still finding my feet. The 8 speed seems to have relatively low 1st and 2nd gears causing either slow acceleration or high reving. I am also using the paddles in D mode to flick up a gear occasionally and then allowing it to move itself back into D mode. On the motorway using the paddles to hold 8th as you overtake at 70-80 also stops the kick down. I also ran some Redex engine cleaner through as well - not sure tis make a massive difference. I would be interested to hear if anyone has used Terraclean or similar and did that make a difference? Also has anyone chipped the 190bhp 2.2 engine and any thoughts from a fuel economy / performance point of view?
  4. I would agree with others, claying the car first really helps. I use Autoglym High Definition wax. It is hard work to apply and may not be a ultimately shiny as other waxes but it does last a long time. I then 'top up' with Autoglym aqua wax as well.
