  1. Thanks Peter. If anyone is interested in any parts, let me know as I'm going to break it. It's a 2003 2.5 V6 petrol with 125k. Cream leather interior. Does anyone have any idea what I could get for the sum of the parts? just a vague ballpark figure would be useful!
  2. Thanks for the replies! I don't think it's worth spending any money on it. I'm probably going to break the car for spares.
  3. Hello all I didn't have to unscrew the covers - they pulled off as they weren't attached to anything! When they came off, a lot of sodden metal fell away with them. The sills are damp through. The majority of the underside of the sills has corroded away completely. The chassis seems solid. I suspect I know the answer to this but here's the photos. Let me know what you think.
  4. Hello everyone. Thanks for the replies. I'll get the covers off and have a look.
  5. Thanks for your reply. No I haven't. Are they easy enough to remove? I guess that should be my next move before deciding how to proceed.
  6. Hello, I have a 2003 S Type which hasn't been driven in some time. It's declared off the road and needs some work doing to it, which I intended to do over the next few months. Over the last 6 months I've begun to notice rust bubbling under the paint on the front arches. It is spreading slowly but surely but hasn't come through the paint yet. I believe (I'm not expert) that dirt and water has become trapped as the arch liners don't fit flush with the arch. It reminds me of my first car, a Fiesta, which had the same problem. I'm pretty sure I can deal with this as it doesn't seem majorly bad. More of an issue is the rear arches. The rust is coming through the paint and the metal is becoming flaky. The rust has spread to the bottom of the arches, under the rear passenger doors. I had no idea it was as bad as it is. While cleaning the car today, I tried to clean out some of the muck and my screwdriver went straight through the bodywork. The metal was rotten through and I now have a huge hole in the body work near the rear offside door. I attach pics. I'd be grateful if someone could advise if this could be a major structural issue or if it can be repaired. I don't know whether it is likely to have spread elsewhere or what I should do. It seems to be spreading at an alarming rate. Any help is appreciated,
  7. Hi Joe Thanks for your reply. I found it very difficult to remove the old hoses; the clamps securing them were rusted and brittle and even when they were off, the hoses seemed fused on. The new part I have comes with clamps with yellow thumb pulls on them. I've never seen this before; do you know what they are for?
  8. I've got the old part off however I now have a new challenge. The pipe which connects from the coolant tank to the 'turret' on the top of the pipe has snapped off the coolant tank. There doesn't seem to be a way of securing it back - will I need a new coolant tank? I could probably attach it some how but is this part under a lot of pressure? Will it just fly off?
  9. Hello Thank you very much for your replies :)
  10. Hello, I wonder if someone could help. I have a 2003 2.5 V6 S Type. I was driving and noticed the temperature gauge go from 50% to 100% very quickly; before I could pull over, there was a judder and the car's cabin filled with white steam. Steam was pouring from under the bonnet and from the exhaust too. I pulled over and turned the engine off. I opened the bonnet and the engine was coated in liquid. The coolant tank was empty and the road was also covered in some sort of liquid. The only problem I can see is that a plastic 'valve' has burst (I attach pictures of it) and coolant has sprayed everywhere. I'm not a mechanic but I think I need to replace this part. Do you know the 'technical' name for the part? I've checked online and I think it is an 'upper radiator hose' but I wanted to ask your advice before ordering. I can't reconnect the 'valve' as the plastic connection has completely sheared. It looks like it burst off under pressure. PS Excuse the black masking tape and zip tie. I called out the AA and the engineer attempted to reconnect it this way. I'm no expert but didn't think it was safe so I removed it in order to take the picture.
  11. Hello everyone I am new to this forum. I have a Jaguar S Type 2.5 V6, which has 128,000 miles and is on a 53 plate. The car was my dad's and was always serviced regularly. Recently it has been overheating. Not regularly, but every now and again. I have been told I have a small coolant leak so I have been topping up the car on a regular basis. I'm aware this is not ideal but I don't have the finances to have it looked into at the moment. Today, while driving, the engine began making very unusual noises. Almost like it wasn't in the right gear - a juddering, knocking sort of noise. I noticed the engine temperature gauge increase slightly passed normal, then sink below normal. At that moment, something 'popped' in the engine - plumes of white smoke came out of the exhausts, from under the engine and then into the car cabin. It wasn't just steam, there was loads of it. I pulled over immediately. My engine bay is covered in some sort of liquid. I've done a bit of research and I think this sounds like the head gasket has gone. I did check under the oil filler cap a day or so ago and it had no sludge but I haven't checked it since. Does this sound like a head gasket to you? Are there any other checks I could do? The car is obviously parked up and I haven't started it or done anything else to it since this happened. Any help is much appreciated.
