hi dashes or instruments are coded to the car, so best option is get it repaired, theres usually plenty of place that repair them and offer great guarantees replace them and getting them coded would be a lot more expensive cheers Joe -
Hi most probable best diagnostic reader for the s-type is Icarsoft code reader basic ones less than £100 best one around £170 which is icarsoft LRV3, which will read every thing from engine to gearbox, abs airbags, suspension, everything LPG on these cars is a right pain and unless fitted 100% correct will always give fault codes. ideally for mot, you need to run on petrol and reset faults codes and leave it on petrol till its been for mot, so you should not get any codes. its when you run on lpg I bet you get codes, the car monitors everthing like fuel, and when run on lpg will give errors because fuel is not been used if you after just clearing engine codes, a cheap code reader would be ok, wont give accurate fault descriptions, but if your just clearing code will be ok, depends how much you want spend cheers Joe

hi P1000 is normal after code reset till its done a full drive cycle then will clear on its own P1646 is a bad lambda, are you sure you changed the correct one, if the faults still there also on the S-type, cheap lambda dont work, only denso one seem to work cheers Joe

hi its more of a common problem on post 2002 cars, pre 2002 car were not as bad, climate module on later cars blow circuit board tracks inside the module and usually quite visable so easy to repair if you need any wiring diagrams or manuals have a look here http://www.jagrepair.com/ cheers Joe
-

hi as all petrol s-type have timing chains not belts I assume you have a diesel. if it is the diesel, then usually water pump is not usually changed with timing belt, as its not driven by the timing belt but by aux belt, but for how much water pump costs it may be worth it for peace of mind and saving future costs as for 3 way valve, I assume you mean DCCV, dual coolant control valve, a genuine valve is £300, a bosch one, which is probably the best out there is £100, unbranded around £50, so if depends what they have fitted, should only take about a hour to change, so if its genuine part, price is ok, if its after market, then its very expensive labour for that price cheers Joe

hi are you sure the bulbs are correct type and iinstalled correct they have odd bulbs on the s-type and will go in both ways, but only one way is correct the lights have 2 permanents feed to each light, so if you touch the body it will pop fuses might sound silly but check the bulbs first, seen it so many times cheers Joe
-
hi I assume its pre jaguar ids/sdd as it still comes up invalid, looks like you car is pre 1998 so this could be the reason you can go on jaguar heritage site and email them, they should be able to tell you cheers Joe

hi if you buying the bolt on type, the bonnet needs drilling, there is already a round hole in the bonnet frame at the front, hole has to be in the middle of that hole cheers Joe

hi would say £400 to £500 for service if genuine ZF parts and oil is used Genuine ZF parts are about £250 alone, thats for ZF lifeguard 6 oil, new pan/filter, new updates pan screws with larger torx heads, new updated mechatronics sleeve which was prone to leaking. also if it done correct, at Jaguar, they update the software and reset the adaptations and do a learn cycle, which makes every thing nice and smooth, a indy may not do this and you may find it shifts harsher afterwards also dont be tempted into cheaper oil, as when you drain it about 4 litres stays in the torque converter which means when you top up with up to 7 litre of new zf life guard 6 it mixes with 4 lires of old oil, if you use cheap oil, they dont always mix well, mixing oils is never recommended and a lot of people get issues and its really hard to remove after zf recommended every 60k or 10 years for service oil change did mine and it did make it smoother cheers Joe

Battery conditioner recommendations
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Simon Bowen's topic in New Members Introductions
Hi As above CTEK every time, but the basic mxs 5.0 or mxs 3.6 are also fine the original Jaguar CTEK charger is only a 3.3 amp and does the job superbly, have had one on mine for many years and still has the Jaguar battery, it only trickle charges as required, once up to voltage the charger knock off and monitors the voltage and restarts the charging sequence once the battery voltage drops. so a large charger is not required your just paying extra for something your not using. also recommend the convenience kits, so you conect the kit to the battery and you fit a charging socket close to the battery, so you dont have to expose the battery to charge it cheers Joe -
hi try ebay, has the widest audience just advertise it as a clasified, fixed price then cheers Joe

Hi Has someone been in the hidden menu's and pressed update, if so the NAV unit in the boot needs replacing if not check all the connectors on the NAV unit in the boot, that where the vide/picture is generated for the touch screen cheers Joe

hi there is no easy way just look on ebay and autotrader and see what similar car is fetching, then adjust for, if its lower mileage and better service history people will only pay what other are fetching, unless your prepared to sit on it for ages, but these cars don't like sitting around have a look on JEC and Jaguar driver club sites and see what similar cars are fetching as well cheers Joe

1997 XJ long wheel base barn find
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Anthony s's topic in Jaguars For Sale & Wanted
hi thats a 1997 car, so it will be a 4.0 V8, not a 4.2, 4.2 are post 2002 so depending on its history, can have lots of engine issue, known problems with nicasil bores and mainley problems with timing chains and tensioners so unless you know its history, it may need a lot of engine work as well, 4.2 are a much better engine and much more reliable cheers Joe -
hi personally I'd steer clear of ebay, for a few reasons, theres alway a few variations in sizes of discs, so odds are they will send the wrong ones, There really heavy and like most the couriers dont care and they usually get damaged where there thrown around in the van and what you get is not always what you paid for I'd use somewhere like euro car parts, there always one local, and there prices are usually really cheap, they always have deals on them most weekends making them half price, you pay and collect, if there wrong you just swap them, no night mares after youve spent all day getting the old ones off and the selection of brand is good cheers Joe
-
hi if you look on some of the forums, you should be able to find a link to download it, as its over 8gb its not that easy to share the file also it wont work on a lot of cars, the nav dvds are getting old on these cars and most wont play copied dvd's only genuine burned ones also the volvo denso dvds wont work on our cars as its a different denso nav unit as for Jagdroid, £650 quid cheap, people will pay £1500 of a new iphone or samsung phone, so bargain if ask me, the unit does so much and can easily be sold on for same money if car is sold cheers Joe

hi the inertia switch cuts power to the fuel system, usually the first thing you would check when you find there no fuel getting the car plugged into jaguar software like jaguar ids/sdd would of clearly showed the inertia fuel cut off tripped also even though its semi hidden the fuel inertia cutoff off switch features in every cars handbook its definately one to remember cheers Joe
