  1. hi all S-type have electric headlight height adjusters, some are manual, dial on dash, some are self leveling, HID ones. all suffer from broken adjust, they go brittle and break, ending in drooping headlights, replacements are avail on ebay self leveling lights, all STR and option HID if fitted, have two sensors, front and rear, should do the dance every time the ignition is switch on, lights go fully up, then fully down, then level, if any key parts are unplugged, with battery connected, sensors or headlights, the self leveling will stop working and can only be reset with Jaguar ids/sdd software cheers Joe
  2. hi ebay or if you google it, it can be downloaded from some forums but last update was 2012, so still out of date if it a keeper have a look at Jagdroid, just google it, not cheap but superb bit of kit, love mine cheers Joe
  3. hi what the reg number there plenty of apps that will tell you, if it still has the reg of course cheers Joe
  4. HI Amber gearbox fault light is a give away get it plugged in and see what the fault is, any suggestions on here will be pure guess work and will be a expensive way to sort it get the code and it will point you in the right direction, could be as simple as a abs sensor or low oil in the box you ideally need some one with Jaguar IDS/SDD for correct fault codes cheers Joe
  5. hi as above, you need to identify where fault it if you plug in it usually logs where the fault is, otherwise you need to plug in when the fault is there but most common areas are where wires move, so if it has seat air bag, check wires under the seats, or quite common is clock spring on steering wheel airbag cheers Joe
  6. hi I assume its got no remotes to lock the doors, just the key does it have a button on the dash that locks and unlocks all the door, if so and if that still works, sounds like the door lock maybe you need to check the door lock switch and it looks like theres a few relays and fuses also that need checking if you need wiring diagrams have a look here http://www.jagrepair.com/ cheers Joe
  7. hi the latest nav disc for s-types is 2012, they dont do anything newer if your cars a keeper get jagdroid, have it in mine, superb setup, latest android. all apps available, android auto, google maps, tomtom, also dab, front an rear cameras can be fitted and also google assistant works while driving full hand free https://www.jagdroid.org/ cheers Joe
  8. hi yes the global opening closing works from the fob, the door lock and dash button if the passenger will not close its because the one touch has not been done, on that window hold open button till it clicks, the n hold the close till it clicks, once one touch is working, the global opening closing will work also works with sun roof if fitted cheers Joe
  9. Hi if you have installed version v160, it does not work with pre 2005 cars, that used Jaguar IDS software, only has SDD software I use version v130, which works with all jaguars up to 2011, it has Jaguar IDS and SDD IDS is for pre 2005 cars and SDD is for cars after 2005 is you car pre facelift or post face lift, pre face lift IDS, post face lift SDD V130 is best for the S-type, last updates for S-type were 2009, which are all on version 130 also what are you wanting to do with it, if your planning on updating modules, programing, you need both dvd's installed, a very good power supply to keep battery on charge, 25 amps plus, a descent windows xp pro laptop with a good battery, dont recommend using the software with virtual image software that simulates window xp, very unstable, if the battery on the car goes low, or laptop goes off or crashes mid updating or programing it will brick that module and render it useless cheers Joe
  10. hi if its a normal s-type there quite straight forward, unlike the R's where its a bumper off job to replace the bulbs Ive used Ring xenon 150, very good light and had lasted 2 years now, tried the osram ones and they only lasted 4 months they also do ring xenon 200, which are suppose to be 200% brighter, which I will be fitting soon. dont press on the bulb holders too much, as the adjuster are the weakest link in the headlights and break very very easy, meaning the headlights have to be stripped and adjuster replaced cheers Joe
  11. hi if your after a diesel s-type go for the earlier ones, with tail pipes that point down, they have no DPFs and get much less problems with the engines service history is ideal, but if your only doing short trips, then a diesel will give you problems, unless it has no dpfs cheers Joe
  12. HI yes all the al the faults should give codes, but not always once its cleared and its allowed to run properly and regens correct the dpfs should stay clear legally they should not be removed, bu a lot of people do, removing the guts on the dpfs throw up faults, having it mapped out removes warning lights so it all works correct, they still pass mots correct cheers joe
  13. hi usually once the dpf's get blocked cleaning them is only a short term fix I'd try getting it cleaned again and see if the fault clears, diesels now dont like shorts trips and dont like standing, they block up if there not run and run up to temp correct, wont get the dpf's hot enough and clear the soot out once clear they need regular long runs for them to keep the dpfs clear, some people use additives, they help the exhaust gasses get hotter and burn the soot out of the dpf's this is why a lot of people remove the dpfs and have them mapped out, blocked dpfs can cause diesel to accumulate in the engine oil and this eventually destroys the crankshaft keep and eye on oil, if oil level goes up, needs regular oil changes the actuators on the turbos are electronic, if they soot up they can go stiff and also cause similar problems cheers Joe
  14. hi all the interior lights are controlled via the body module or do you mean dimmer module have a look here for wiring http://www.jagrepair.com/images/AutoRepairPhotos/jagxj1998.pdf also look here lots of other info http://www.jagrepair.com/ cheers Joe
  15. hi There slightly different and torque converters are completely different also a different gearbox will need coding to the car or it may not run whats up with your gearbox, usually a sonnax kit and oil change fixes most faults cheers Joe
  16. Hi What problems are you getting cheers Joe
  17. hi got ones of these myself they usually sell for around £50 on fleabay think some 1500 were made good luck with the sale cheers Joe
  18. Hi think its quite common on the xf's The vents are either side of the boot, roughly positioned under the light clusters and they are there to allow the air pressure out as you close a door for instance. I have read of previous occurrences of water in the boot caused by these vents coming dislodged. Bumper off job I believe to rectify. it was on a jaguar service bulletin cheers Joe
  19. Hi Got mine with Footman James, on a classic policy, agreed value, covers a lot that other wont, very friendly uk staff. If you a member of the JDC you get a great discount, my S-type R all covered for less than £200. cheers Joe
  20. HI Front suspension could be one of many things really, lower shock bush, anti roll bar drop links, or the banana arm bushes, could even be a upper or lower ball joint just take it a garage, usually quite obvious, rubber boot perishes first the the bush or joint wears out after gearbox sound like it needs a service and fluids changing, best place to start cheers Joe
  21. hi the laptop you have is ideal fpr the job cheers Joe
  22. hi just a warning, if your using it for diagnostics its fine if your going to try programing any thing, make sure dvd 2 is installed, thats all the module software and updates the software does not check first, it deletes the software in the module and then looks for the new software and if dvd 2 is not installed, then its too late, its been wiped also you need a descent battery charger connected as well, at all times, when you doing updates or programing, it asks you to turn ignition off and on many times, which can flatten the battery quite quick, if the battery goes below a certain voltage mid programing it may corrupt the module beyond repair cheers joe
  23. hi hopefully cured, denso are oe and the best ones to fit most after market ones wont work cheers Joe
  24. hi looks great all season tyres are usually ok, it depends what winter we get rear wheel drive cars are not the best in ice or snow, but we dont get that much here generally all season tyres are quite good I have used winter/snow tyres and they are far superior in ice and snow and only use them december to march a lot of it it depends on the roads your travelling, if its all main road, there more likely to be kept clear in winter cheers Joe
  25. hi for diagnostic use you can download the software and run it via vmware, virtual image, ok for diagnostics only but for programing modules, updates and programing keys and so on, its best to use on a dedicated window xp pro laptop, its far more stable, you can pick a laptop up for about £50, it the best software out there, you can do every thing jaguar can. some Icarsoft code reader for Jaguar are also very good cheers Joe
