Found My New Car 2005 (05) JAGUAR S TYPE 3.0 V6 SE 4DR AUTO
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Aubrey's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
hi makes sure you check the sills for rot, there hidden by covers and can completely rot away also check mot history on a app like vehicle smart looks great though, I prefer the that shape myself, great cars cheers Joe. -
You could use the CTEK, put the charger indoors and use a extension lead for the ctek 12v to reach the car then you could either mount a plug in the boot, so you just open the boot and plug it in and then shut the boot at lock it, the lead would be protected if fused if there was a problem, problem with this is some times you forget and just drive off and damage the lead, a friend of mine uses a ball of bluetak, places the ball over the ignition lock, which remind him if he gets in with out unplugging the charger that its still on charge or you could just mount the convenience just below your bumper, so you can plug it in easy without opening the boot and would just pull apart if you forgot extending the 12v lead lead would not be effected by any weather no matter how wet it got

hi there factory lacquered, its the lacquer that come off and leave them dull get a 3m head light restorer kit there just over 20 quid and will make them look brand new, some people reseal them after cheers Joe

hi The ctek is a smart charger so will turn off when the battery is fully charged, so wont over charge the battery the solar charger will charge the battery continuous, whether its fully charged or not, also if I remember right, they only 2.4 watt, so best case its only 0.2 amps, thats 200 mA, so its not going to charge the best really, thats will full sun, when we get it. to go with a solar one you really need a much bigger one really at least 10 watts, the 2.5 watt is not very good cheers Joe

Hi Any really mxs 5.0 is most common I have the genuine jaguar one which is only a 3.3 amp, which does the job perfect theres no benefit to getting anything bigger, wont charger the battery any better or faster, as its a smart charger and does it in processes, then when complete it turns off and stay in standby sort off, when the battery voltage drops it starts charging and goes through the same process again, this is why these can be left on long term and wont over charge or boil the battery dry, like cheaper ones you can also get convenience kits that you fit. mine has a small socket in the boot, you just open the boot and plug it in and its maintaining, no need to lift carpet ot get to the battery also if you fit anything connected to the battery, like one of the sockets or quick connect kits, make sure its a fused type as close to the battery as possible, some kits are not fused, and if you trap the cable by accident, it will just melt all the cables or possibly start a fire. cheers Joe

HAS ANYONE EVER HAD THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION LIGHT COME ON
JOE-DOT-COM replied to MISS HASWELL's topic in Jaguar Owners Lounge
+1 for the CTEK chargers, a must if your cars not in daily use keeps the battery tip top, got a Jaguar on my S-type R and never had any warning lights in over 6 years, well recommended cheers Joe -
hi its hit and miss, unfortunately, some people get problems, some don't I've had my S-type R for 6 years and never had any problems what so ever, though its well looked after the electric park brake works really well, you just apply it and pull off when required and it releases itself these cars are getting old now so lack of maintenance can be a issue but try it at least a dozen times, big problem can be a low battery that can cause issues, also damp in the boot can make the park brake module fail cheers Joe
-
hi I would look a used parts and take it to a independent garage try some where like auto reserve jaguar, very good used parts would be a lot cheaper and just as good using good used genuine jaguar parts cheers Joe

hi park brake fault usually occurs when the battery is low, low battery effect all modules on the car, if battery voltage drops too low, the modules go into fault make sure the battery is also fully charged, left on charge over night you get fault if either, the calipers hand brake arms have gone stiff, handbrake cables have gone stiff or epb motor has gone tight, ideally you need to get it plugged into to Jaguar ids/sdd which will tell you what the exact fault is you can quickly reset the epb module by unplugging the epb module in the boot for about a minute, when you plug it back in and switch the ignition on you should get the calibration message you can also drive the epb motor manually with 12 volts to make sure it works and sound ok and may also free it off, have a look at this video on how to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xebdRYwtjE&t=3s also if your boot gets lots of damp, as some suffer with water ingress, it may have a faulty epb module cheers Joe

hi put a new battery on it and make sure its been fully charged, ideally left on charge over night if the jump leads are not big enough, they need to be left connected for for 10 minutes or so to bring the battery up jump starting a car should not effect anything, unless they were connected with wrong polarity in which would have blown some of the electronics worth also checking all the mega fuses in the boot cheers Joe
