hi the 2002 plus cars, the lower shocker bush is in the lateral arm, not in the shocker, pre 2002 cars had them in the bottom of the shocker either way there was no need to touch the track rod ends odds are you tracking is out now, and it will effect handling and will wear your tyres out, if its bad enough cheers Joe

Oil Smell through Vents - 2010 XJ X351 3.0D
JOE-DOT-COM replied to AlexWard's topic in 2003 Onwards XJ
hi usually the smell of burning oil is oil coming from the cam covers and oil dripping on the exhaust manifolds but not sure myself really on your model of car, exhaust really is the only place hot enough to burn oil, it would just sit every where else only thing I'd recommend is try ringing Chris isle, The Jaguar specialist, really friendly and very informative and may help you over the phone you can also ask him on facebook as hes on most of the Jaguar groups and helps lots of people with advice cheers Joe -

JOE-DOT-COM replied to s3c chris's topic in Jaguars For Sale & Wanted
hi if you can justify keeping it, you may have to at that price its in S-type R money and there going to hold there money/value a lot better similar examples go for a lot less, you will only get what people are prepared to pay may be better putting it on Ebay as a classified, cheap to sell with lots of pics and buy far the widest audience to sell a car dont forget to put all its history as well good luck with the sale cheers Joe -
will a new battery resolve all the issues on my jag xf
JOE-DOT-COM replied to mikes car's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Hi If your keeping the car, you cant go wrong with replacing the battery I bought my battery from the the battery mega store, it was a agm battery and its been great and the prices are also great https://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/ batteries on these cars cause all kind of issues, especially if its a diesel, they take so much out on start up also some cars have two batteries, maybe be worth getting both checked theres no guarantee a new battery will cure it, but its the best place to start and cures most problems like this cheers Joe -
hi have you changed the oil, diesels can suffer with oil dilution with leaky injectors and can destroy a engine if missed I'd change the oil first, make sure correct grade and spec is used cheers joe
-
HI The gearboxes are rebuild able and repairable first step would be get codes read with Jaguar ids/sdd software to see what fault is and go from there could be a sticky solenoid in the gearbox to something as simple as a abs sensor, or even a air leak on the engine cheers Joe

only other option was like above, buy a cheap bluetooth elm adapter, can be bought for around a fiver, just pop it in the obd port, then use something like " Tourqe app " on your phone and you will be able to view temp that way There will be a way to view, but its just finding how to I have a S-type R, well its the same on all S-types, you get a temperature gauge, but its just for show, they show cold then goes slowly to the center of the gauge, which would indicate normal running temp, but on the S-type's you can put the dash into diagnostic mode and bring up the actual engine temperature, the temperature can move over 30 deg C and the temperature gauge always stays in the center, its as if they dont trust you with the actual temperature itself, only when the temp gets too hot, just before overheating does the gauge move from the center position to full temp. The diagnostic mode on the S-types is very usefull and xf will have something similar, its just finding how to access it cheers Joe
