Alternator, starter motor wiring loom
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Gordon Mac's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
HI unfortuanately that part is not available seperate you have to buy the battery lead that goes from the battery to the front balkhead , not cheap £145 part number XR828127 if you can repair it maybe a cheaper option, would be to fit something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Longacre-Battery-Bulkhead-Through-Panel-Electrical-Cable-Connector-Race-Rally/360898369203?hash=item54073816b3:g:VqgAAOSwg3FUeVlk:rk:1:pf:0 other option is a second hand one cheers Joe -
Hi Yes unfortuanately, the TCM on the 6HP26, is built into the gearbox so swapping the gearbox, will cause loads of problems and the car will not even start the gearbox tcm is networked and talks to most of the modules on the car it would need programing to the car with something like Jaguar IDS/SDD lots of jaguar indy's have it and should be able to program it, problem is once you swap the box your stuck, wont drive or start Serviced my gearbox a few years ago and only used genuines part and oil, ZF lieguard 6, lots of people use cheaper oil and end up with a host of problems after usually the main problem is the mechatronics, which is the valve body in the bottom of the gearbox, this has the tcm built in, you can get service kit which will cure most faults, like a sonnax kit, which replaces all the little pistons and valves in the body , also a set of solenoids whichs controls all the gear selections and clutches, is usually replaced which comes seperate. also if the software is the original build that can cause problems, updates can cure a few issues like banging gears and surging when cold, a adaptation reset will also be required, this clears all the learnt data the gearbox learns and helps the gearbox to drive smooth again cheers Joe.

Loss of Engine Compression 2002 4.0 Liter
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Vcolborn's topic in 1994 to 2003 XJ
hi I think early cars suffered with cylinder wash, where piston ring seal failed if the engine was run for very short periods, like a few minutes something to do with cylinder wall lubrication, if it is just pull the plugs on the low side and spray some oil in crank it over the reinstall the plugs just google jaguar 4.0 cylinder wash cheers Joe -
Hi Rob If you PM me your vin number I can PM you build spec of your car off Jaguar SDD software cheers Joe

hi back doors are most probably stiff motors, spray some wd40 in them and they will free off, its a common problem restricted performance will be just pure guess work, you need to get it plugged in to see what the actual problem is water, it got be going somewhere, have you checked the oil, does it still look ok, not gone milky, also most probably keaking underneath, you wont usually see it on the floor as they have plastic undertrays which will hold the leaking water, if i remember right xf have plastic pipes tha fail, if not that a hose or expansion tank, good garage should be able find and sort it cheers Joe

Spark plug bank 5 photos and brilliant code reader .
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Rigger's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
hi unless you state you want them changed, they usually don't get done manual for my S-type R says, for the plugs is 100k or 10 years, but thats with genuine oe one's I change mine every couple of years, there no that expensive and really not that hard to do if your plugs have not been done before, its worth checking, the air filter and pollen filter, pollen filter always get forgotten and can get in quite a state always try to use descent seals for the manifold, I always stick to genuine parts, there a common cause of lean fault codes cheers Joe -
hi, no, its different on the xf, but the xf sat nav is still updateable also they use two completely different systems, s-type uses D2B network for sound, XF uses MOST cheers Joe

hi there is usually a filter if the left side of the j-gate goes to number 4, its the ford 5 speed, if the j-gate goes to 5, ts a zf 6 speed cheers Joe

hi you would be better off with a smart charger like a ctek I know you said you have no supply there, but you could extend the cables, so it could reach another building with a supply as longs as its the 12 volts leads and there fused close to the battery if you can keep the car powered up, you less likely to get any issues with faults and electronics prefer to be kept powered up also on the matter of solar chargers there ok, but there not smart, they will put a voltage out, wheather the battery flat or fully charged, so they can also overcharge the battery and boil it dry cheers Joe

Hi Got my car insured with Footman James, they only insured my S-type R because I was in the JDC, but was by far the best quote I had with the best policy I've been offered there excess was really low and there uk staff and call centre they also do agreed value a well, which was very good this is the second year I've been with them and renewal came through more competive than everone else cheers Joe

front, rear and exterier mirror screen heaters not working
JOE-DOT-COM replied to John Birchall's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
hi there fed from different fuses and relays the rear heater and mirrors are common might be worth getting a diagnostic plugged in to see if there are any faults, do the buttons light up, when pressed, do you hear any relays click in the boot area have attachted some pics of the wiring and fuse numbers cheers Joe -
hi It was mainley issues with earlier sump filters and pattern ones latter ones had larger pin heads on the sump/filter to eliminate this, also if there over tightened they can crush the sleeves in the filter/sump I've seen them put together with a sleeve insert missing in the sump/filter, which cause the sump to distort as the tension will squash the sump/filter a lot of people use pattern parts which are not as good and sometimes inferior quality I serviced mine a few year ago with all genuine ZF parts and never had any issues since, though it did come with updated sump/filter, updated pins, larger heads, updated mechatronics sleeve, early sleeves were prone to leaking from the o-ring. the gearbox holds about 10 litres, but you can only get about 6 litres out by removing the sump, dropping the mechatronics will drain a bit more, but even then the torque convertor stays half full. this gearbox is generally a great gearbox as its used in many cars like, audi, bmw, bentley, aston martin, citroen, jaguar , landrover, maserati, porshe and ford are a few, most of them use the plastic sump/filter apart from the landrovers which use a steel one, but the plastic ones are not known to leak if fitted correct problem is genuine parts for service was about £200 and after market ones are around £100, which one do you think your indi is going to fit?, they both look the same once fitted cheers Joe
