  1. Hi Some additive are ok in basic stuff like engine's but using additives in auto boxes are really a no no, most additive's are friction reducers and you dont want that in a gearbox, it can cause the friction plates to slip and also most auto gearboxes have a lockup clutch in the torque convertor, you don't want this to slip either additives are also no good in gearboxes with LSD's in and I recommend just using descent oils, I use Castrol edge proffesional in mine and Genuine ZF oil in the gear box, Castrol Again in the diff cheers Joe

  3. hi looks like you have a late type all earlier auto's and manuals were screw on knowing jaguar there bonded on and may not be a serviceble part might be the whole mechanism maybe some will know on here cheers Joe
  4. Hi I assume there the same as the S-type and should screw on and off there a chrome tapered piece underneath which acts like a lock nut I changed mine and it took some taking off as it had locktight on it, which made it tight to remove, but eventually cam off cheers Joe
  5. hi manufactures give different time/mileage, due to different stresses the engine creates on the belt a timing belt on a 4 cylinder 8 valve engine is going to be under less stress than say a 6 cylinder 24 valve engine as for the water pump, as a general rule, if its driven by the cambelts, should be replaced at the same time as the timing belt, same with all bearing idlers and bearing tensioners on the timing belt cheers Joe

Hi Wont be a valve's due to over heat, if anything its going to be head gasket before you tackle it, do a compression test, if the compression on all the cylinders is the same, it could be electrical still when hoses pop, water can get every and into connectors and can take some drying out, because antifreeze wont dry and will give you problems get a comprssion test done first cheers Joe

  9. hi according to auto data, fuse 17 10a is EGR valve and turbo control solenoid both are near exhaust, check the wiring, nothing touching manifold, damaged or melted wiring cheers Joe

Hi Its a common problem with the Icarsoft I930, most people cant get them to work, with the engine ecu some people can by updating the I930 through the Icarsoft site, but most people I've seen end up returning it and swapping for the Icarsoft LRII just google it, a lot of people have had the same problem cheers Joe

Hi Most of the S-type's are fly by wire and the ecu's are extremely fast If there's a delay, its not electronics wise, my STR is instant response and I'm sure the TDV6 should be aswell not driven the Diesel S-type but there's plenty of people on here with them, so hopefully some one will tell us how they should be has it got service history of fuel filters and air filters been replace cheers Joe
  14. hi the should be a switch on the steering column to adjust it move it from auto to steering column and your seat, steering column will stay in one position cheers Joe
  15. Hi disconnecting the battery usually cures most common faults make sure you have any codes if needed for the stereo also make sure the battery fully charged, a low battery causes caos with the electronic modules cheers Joe
  16. hi its most probably a duff sensor, if I remember right if you put your ear to the parking sensor it makes a clicking noise, all 4 should click, in revese, they work like sonar may be worth checking the module as well in the boot tyre well, some cars are prone to letting water in and damaging the module cheers Joe
  17. Hi the two are not related, disconnecting the battery usualy cures the epb fault, also a low battery will cause it aswell the servive indicator just needs reseting, instructions below also some info on how to manually operate the epb below cheers Joe
  18. Hi Any body going RAF Cosford next Sunday, There will be a lot of Jaguars there and there's usually a good turnout I'm going, went last year, great turnout, its just £4 to park all day and free entry in to Cosford Museum cheers Joe Some pics I took last year.

Hi One would have to look at the car, but could be headgasket some cars do have oil to water coolers in the base of the oil filter also if its a automatic some cars have a oilcooler in the passenger side of the coolant radiator a good mechanic should be able to find it what size engine is it, is it manual or auto cheers Joe

Hi Paul There's loads out there, but most only give generic engine code, most wont communicates with all the modules Icarsoft LRII works with most of the modules and some people used Icarsoft I930 but this one can give issues with reading engine codes I use a Mongoose lead and Jaguar IDS/SDD software, with this you can do everthing jaguar can and used it with great success for fault finding and programing new modules British Diagnostics do the Mongoose lead and software for around £100, LRII is around £140 and the I930 is around £100 cheers Joe
  21. hi there not visally easy to tell if they have been changed, as they look good when there old also make sure they replace both belts, timing belt front of engine, fuel pump belt rear of engine cheers Joe

  23. hi sometimes at the discretion of the mot person, but it wants fixing really, coming from a biker as well its no fun when there oil on the road but if its not a bad leak, give it a good wipe down before you take it and they usually pass, also with the water leak, need to get it fixed as usually they let go big style with water every where and depending on the temperature when it lets go, can damage heads and gaskets if you know where the water leak is and your just waiting till the mot to see how it goes, use some radweld, just pour it in the expansion tank and will fix small leaks, I had to do it once while we were on holiday and the radiator sprung a small leak, cured it for a few weeks till i got the radiator replaced if it were my car and the car body work is sound, mainly like the sills and arches, I'd keep it, there generally quite reliable, but if your thinking of selling, once its got that mot its the best time to sell, but you will struggle to find a descent one with less than 50k , new rules also are for diesels and won't effect petrol cars, you might find it will go up in value due to this. cheers Joe
  24. hi if there a fusebox in the engine bay when you open the lid, theres usually exposed terminals you could put power on one and would be enough to power the boot lock, just dont attempt to start it if you have a battery charger put the black on a good earth and the red on a exposed terminal once your in the boot get it on charge, you will most probably get a few fault codes till its fully charged this is also a common fault on the s-type and thats what they do on these cheers Joe
  25. hi unfortunately could be one of many things you need to get jaguar software plugged in and it will tell exactly what wrong could be just something as simple as a abs sensor, that will cause limp mode and make the gearbox go funny generic code readers only give engine fault codes and are often misleading get it on jaguar diagnostics, Jaguar SDD software cheers Joe
