  7. hi Same here I'd shop around, try some of the online shops like moneysupermarket, go compare, confused, compare the market, these will give a good idea of insurance also I tried Footman James, as I'm also a member of JDC, they gave me a great discount and were cheaper than all the above and there was only £50 excess also sometimes its worth putting your spouse on the policy as well, as it can bring the premium down, with the online ones you can try it both ways to see which is best cheers Joe
  8. Hi Try MTEC brakes they seem Ok https://www.mtecbrakes.com/brake-discs.html or SNG BARRATT https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/English/FindParts/Families or british parts https://www.britishparts.co.uk/jaguar-parts-c11 but places like europarts use good quality parts as well https://www.eurocarparts.com/ cheers Joe

  13. hi only way to know for sure is to plug in and read the codes could be one of many things, but it sounds like a faulty sensor seen something as simple as a faulty ABS sensor cause this type of fault don't think its engine related as usually you have to switch engine off for those to clear cheers Joe
  14. HI Just had a quick look, looks like theres only gaskets on the upper covers any way bet the bottom cover either has a gasket built in that does not need changing cheers Joe
  15. Hi have a look on SNG BARATT site or British car parts SNG site is good and its got all the part listed cheers Joe
  16. Hi I did mine a couple of years ago new headlights are £813 each to remove the headlight you have to drop the front bumper, which come off reasonably easy I removed the bumper and removed both headlights, split them replaced all the adjuster for new type one's that dont break, cleaned them out, swapped the hid bulbs for 8k ones, much brighter, also polished the lenses, so they came up like new# took about 4 hours from start to finish, but well worth it cheers Joe
  17. Hi May be worth doing a oil change first if the oil is too thick, it can cause the noise you described and it causes a delay in oil pressure to the vvt cheers Joe
  18. Hi This is a common problem on the S-types, At a guess the headlight adjusters have broke inside the headlight are some plastic adjusters that snap, they can be replaced there's 2 options 1 the best one really is order the adjusters off ebay , remove the light and split it and replace the adjusters 2 there a screw fix method, its a bit heath robinson, but does the job also worth remember on these lights, if you unplug them with the battery connected, the self leveling will stop working and can only be reset with jaguar software to tell if your adjusters have broke, remove the bulb cover of the rear of the light for the high beam, hold the bulb connector and gently push and pull, if the lamp moves and fell loose, the adjuster has broke cheers Joe adjuster look like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-S-type-S-type-NORMAL-XENON-headlamp-headlight-repair-kit-adjuster-2-SETS/281175787162?_trkparms=pageci%3A62ecc327-29f5-11e8-b39c-74dbd1800491|parentrq%3A348377461620ab12391972f4fffc0415|iid%3A1&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236 the quick screw fix
  19. hi try SNG BARRATT for you coil packs they offer genuine ones and after market ones and are good value https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/English/FindParts/Families/S-Type and X-Type/12 cheers Joe
  20. Hi Only way to tell is with a multimeter, start the car and the battery voltage should be above 14 Volts get the light to come on and check again, if it drops below 12.5 volts, then its not charging enough also check the belt, a slipping belt could also cause the same symptoms cheers Joe
  21. Hi Ted VVT are known to rattle as they wear and can only be fixed by replacing would not say its timing chain with that mileage, 4.2's all have updated tensioners and are not known to fail, also timing chains tend to get louder the hotter they get. to tell if you have VVT look at the front of the cam covers, if there a wires coming from it, it has VVT, if no wires, no VVT VVT offers no performance upgrade on these, it was fitted solely for emissions pics below also check yours sills, they can rot terrible and are hidden by those plastic covers also make sure it has the correct oil, as wrong oil will effect the VVT on start up, as they work on oil pressure cheers Joe THIS ONE HAS VVT NO VVT
  22. hi keep an eye on oil level, especially if it goes up, could be a leaky injector its also worth checking the sills, there hidden by a plastic cover and there prone to rotting cheers Joe
  23. boot key some times seize due to lack of use get loads of wd40 inside the lock and hopefully it will free off cheers Joe
  24. hi seen this before might be same fault its known to break wires, on the boot hinges, where they bend, every time you open and close the boot if you can get in the boot by folding the back seats wriggle the wires to the boot near the pivot point also not sure on the xf but the s-type had a emergency key boot opener, on the under side of the boot handle, maybe the xf has similar cheers Joe
  25. hi bosch batteries have allways served me well in the past the one on my mitsubishi has been on over 10 years, but with the help of a CTEK charger, has always performed excellent My Jaguar has a Jaguar battery at the moment and that seems to perform well, but if I were to replace it now, I'd go for a AGM battery, far better battery mega store have some great deals on usually cheers Joe
