Steel subframe protection
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Carole Simpson-Hadley's topic in XK / XKR (X150) 2006 - 2014
hi you want some thing like a waxoyl or cavity wax, if you use waxoyl, make sure you dont put it on too thick, when its thick it goes hard and cracks, water gets behind it and makes things worse cavity wax goes on really thin and stays soft but if it were mine I'd take it too " KROWN RUST TREATMENT ", superb job and its guaranteed they really do a great job, worth every penny and protect your car for the future I know quite a few people that have had the alloy xj's and xjr's done, alluminium bodies can rot faster than steel and where steel bolts to ally, they corrode faster as you get a reaction cheers Joe http://krown.co.uk/uk/krown_application/Rust_treatment_process https://www.facebook.com/krownuk/ -
hi is the the older 4 button remote if so have a look below cheers joe

hi think the oe ones came with just the large pin its not a problem the little pins on the ones on ebay can be snapped off easy, they only chromed diecast there's also double sided sticky take on them as well a lot of people use that method as they can revert back to the bonnet badge if they wanted cheers Joe

hi Most makes of diagnostics tools only read engine fault codes and even then only give generic codes, so are not allways correct or accurate there's lots of modules on the s-type, and the only one that reads all of them and gives accurate fault codes is the jaguar IDS/SDD software there's lots of jaguar independent dealers that have this as well, so you dont need all ways to go to a main dealer could be one of many things like faulty module in boot, faulty EPB they go stiff from lack of lube, hand brake cables, especially this time of year, the little rubber boots perish each end of the cables, they fill with water and damp and freeze and caliper mech can seize and go stiff plugging with jaguar IDS/SDD will give you a exact fault cheers Joe also have a look here this can help you release the epb and get you going

jaguar s type r v8 supercharged 4.2

hi you can retro fit the bluetooth adapter at the moment you have a phone module in the boot and the handset fitted to the armrest connector, theres 2 options, if you have the handset fitted now A fit the later combined phone/bluetooth module in the boot, along with the bluetooth antenna and fit a mic into the overhead console or B fit a earlier type bluetooth module in the armrest and fit a mic in the overhead console, But, There's allways a but, this method means you need to swap some wires around in the phone module connector and some wires in the armrest connector, this is because your armrest connector is wired for handset, not bluetooth, is quite easy, if you want to go option B let me know and I can give you wiring diagram on where the wires have to be also if you have jaguar voice fitted, you allready have a mic fitted to the overhead console, but recommend fitting the later type mic that is mounted between the console and sun visor, there far superior in sound quality cheers Joe -

Hi If the majority of the car is good, especially engine and gearbox then it would be worth have the welding done on it I know quite a few people with S-type R's and they really like there car two of them recently have had there sills done, one paid £250 to both sills done and other paid £500 they never considered anything else and once done these cars can only go up in value, the S-type R is the only s-type at the moment going up in value cheers Joe -
compressors rarely fail on the s-type its usually a bad dccv valve or a combination of a dccv and air con module, some times when the dccv fails it takes the module out, modules cab be repaired, theres lot of info on how to repair, if you google it a lot of times the air con works, its the dccv passing hot water and warming the heater overcoming the air con a good indy should be able to tell you where the fault is cheers Joe also have a look here http://jaguarclimatecontrol.com/diagnose/

jaguar s type r v8 supercharged 4.2
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Gareth livesley's topic in New Members Introductions
Hi There great car if you find a good one. most important is sills, if sill are gone usually lower rear arches go aswell, have a look behind those covers, welding can cost from £250 up to £1000, depending where you are. check all the electrics work, give it a good blast, make sure you dont get restricted performance, make sure headlight do the dance, go up and down, then level, every time you switch the ignition on, adjusters break inside headlights, replacement adjusters are available, but require bumper off to remove headlights, check supercharger belt, if its ribbed both sides it ok, if it ribbed only on one side, then them belts are no longer available, £250 just just for the parts for the updated belt, check for service history and gearbox service, 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 1st also 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd, gearchanges can be jerky or harsh if on early gearbox software, Gearbox says sealed for life, but thats rubbish, if its done 65K or 10 years its due for service, genuine ZF service parts come in a £200, labour is on top check registration on "vehicle smart" for mot history, avoid if there's lots of advisories for corrosion, supercharger nose can be rattly is coupling is starting to fail, look at tyre's, budget tyre's on these at the rear are lethal, also budget tyres also can mean skinflint owner, so budget tyre's, budget maintenance, check if valley pipe has been replaced, £12 hose, £800 labor to fit, check all the dash lights come on, traction, abs, airbags, engine management and then go off, seen a few with them taped over, check both keys work and remotes, not cheap to replace, check brake pipes, drivers side next to fuel tank, pipes allways rot there, tanks has to be dropped to replace, check heaters get hot and also go cold, both sides there seperate, can be a pain to fix, check for water in boot and rear footwells, some are prone to leaking, also check keylock on bootlid works, they are prone to seizing and you only find out when you get a flat battery and you cant get in the boot, try the electronic park brake, at least 5 times in a row, these can be really troublesome, but only usually when the battery is on its way out, other places start to rust first are insides of the doors, front and rear, vertical seam, where the skin seam sealer is, starts under the paint, looks like spiders, under the paint, also should drive lovely and smooth, there's lots of bushes on the S-type, so it there any knocking its most probably a bush gone. cheers Joe. -
hi theres a level sensor back , rear area, checked its plugged in correct check the connections are not corroded as well cheers Joe

JOE-DOT-COM replied to Jerry Brett's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club

hi WD40 as above to remove if you get your self a roll of double sided trim tape, clean both well and stick the tape to the trim and then stick to the car should do the job cheers Joe https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-Double-Sided-Foam-Automotive-Permanent-Car-Body-Trim-Self-Adhesive-Tape/202060649087?hash=item2f0bc0d27f:m:mWDAdvs-wLPeOMk0KdIriaw

hi the bluetooth module wont work without a phone module yours is pre wired for bluetooth and some cars were wired for phone module and a handset in the armrest seems like a lot of effort, but I like the built in system, because if your car has Jaguar Voice it can all be controlled via voice if your car has a later bluetooth module, if you search bluetooth, Jaguar will come up as a device cheers Joe

automatic X Type 2.2D Auto transmission slip
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Jerry Brett's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
hi not sure what gearboxes the x-type had most had ford gearboxes 5R55N was a 5 speed, but thought later ones were ZF but maybe wrong if its the Ford unit there very easy to service and low oil again would cause it to slip cheers Joe -
hi some faults clear on there own, if the fault has gone some have to be reset cheers Joe

automatic X Type 2.2D Auto transmission slip
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Jerry Brett's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
hi If its the zf 6hp26, 6 speed, 6 speed gearbox goes to 2 to 5 on the left side of j-gate, though sealed for life still needs servicing, if its done 115k it well overdue if it low on oil it can make it slip and even do damage theres kits on ebay, for the service parts, which include oil, filter, new pins for filter and a mechatronics sleeve which are prone to leak only use genuine zf parts and especially zf oil lifeguard 6, if not can cause lots of issues at a later date also if it done at jaguar or a descent jaguar indy, they check the gearbox software is up to date, they clear adaptations and do a learn cycle, these alone are known to fix most of the issues but yours sounds like its low on oil, with it slipping, torque converter relies on oil and if it low could be the issue cheers Joe -
hi yes thats the bluetooth socket you have two options you either need the earlier option, phone module in the boot with extra D2B fibre optic link, bluetooth module in the armrest and a mic fitted to the roof console or the later option, plastic type phone/bluetooth combined module in the boot, with extra D2B fibre optic link and bluetooth antenna for phone/bluetooth module and mic fitted to roof console. later setup is easier to fit and sometime cheaper as only one module is needed cheers Joe
-
hi most of these sound like a low battery have you charged it overnight, this might cure it a low battery cause lots of problems with the modules plus all these codes are not listed in jtis these are the one i could find cheers Joe
-
hi not sure a replacement module will work with out programing, there configured to the car if the replacement does not work it will need programing to the car cheers Joe
