hi I changed the bulbs in my S-type R, which also has HID lights as standard bulbs are available on ebay far cheaper, I changed mine for 8k ones and they much better, I wanted the blue tint to them I got mine off ebay and they have been in nearly 3 years now and are still spot on DS3 bulbs on ebay £20 EBAY LINK also on mine to change the bulbs you have to remove the bumper, before you can remove the headlights, but all in, I did both in less than a couple of hours and thats with removing and replacing the bumper also, if the headlights are like mine, mine are self leveling and do a dance every time you switch the ignition, they go fully up then fully down then self level, on mine if you disconnect the headlight with the battery connected, the self leveling stops working and can only be reset with jaguar software, worth remembering and before any body asks they always pass mot and never had any issue with the old fuzz cheers Joe

hi three words " Grace Space & Pace " I bought my S-type because I like its retro looks but the first time I drove it, I just loved the way it got down the road, extremely smooth and laid back I have the S-type R and when I put my foot down, the silky smooth V8 and power always puts a big grin on my face, nearly 3 years later, every time I put my foot all the way down, it still puts a huge grin on my face Grace, Space and Pace as Jaguar put it, applies to the S-type great car, very underated cheers Joe

HI by moving the back of the switch up and down it should go up and down though there are 16 way adjustable seats and 10 way adjustable seats do you have a pic of the seat switch its also a good idea to test all the electrics before you buy the car, may be a bit late now cheers joe

hi look in your menus on the touch screen usually the self clear when the tyre is pumped up, some need batteries changing as they get older cheers Joe

hi dual mass flywheels were added for one purpose, the make the engine feel smoother basically its a cushion added in the flywheel to remove vibration from diesel engine some are mechanical springs, some rubber and a combination of the two, as they get older, they fail and cause the outer part of the flywheel to come loose, vibrate and move when the clutch is pressed gong to a solid one is by far the best option there no performance loss, but you may feel more vibration when changing gear cheers Joe

hi The one I bought from British diagnostics came with the software that's runs on VMWare, which you install vmware and then loads a image, its a virtual machine, it works OK but its no where near as stable as running on a windows XP pro machine, if I'm setting anything up, I use my dedicated windows XP pro laptop, if I'm just reading and resetting code the either OK cheers Joe

hi no HV pylons near you when it happens, some pylons with heavy load can cause large amounts of interference, could be a possibility its got to be interference of some kind cheers Joe

hi not sure too much on the sv8, but the engine similar to the STR, engine are very strong in standard form, the str engine has a valley pipe/hose in the V, under the supercharger, thats prone to failing due to heat, about £14 for the hose, but the killer is the labour about £600 to £800 timing chains should be quiet and listen at the front of each of the head, as later cars had variable timing, which could wear and leak and some made a strange noise supercharger coupling can also fail on well used engine, sounds like a tapping noise, from supercharger snout area auto gearboxes are generally good, but require servicing at approx 10 years or 60k should drive nice and smooth, there similar suspension setup to the s-type, lots of bushes and driven hard, can cause them to wear check everything works, electrics are expensive, check the aircon, can be also expensive to fix if not working have a look on vehicle smart app at the cars mot history, it will give you a good idea of the car condition cheers Joe

hi faulty abs sensor usually trigger limp mode and transmission faults, as the auto's heavily rely on the sensors if you have the engine light on, your code reader should read it have you tried putting your dash in diagnostic mode should give you the fault codes there, dash diagnostic mode http://www.bluejag.co.uk/S-Type Instrument-cluster-diagnostics.php you can also bring fault codes up on the touch screen as well, but not sure if abs ones come up on there, as ive never seen any on mine cheers Joe

HI All modern smart charger are ok to charge the battery with it still connected I use a Jaguar CTEK charger and these can be put on and left on long term mine has a special socket in the boot for plugging the charger in, without the need to expose the battery the only thing I would recommend is most of the jaguar batteries have a vent tube from the battery to somewhere out side the car, so no buildup of gases, hydrogen in the case of most batteries, so when disconnecting the battery charger, make sure you switch it off at the mains first, as not doing this can create sparks on the clips and if there any build up of charging gases, it can't do any damage cheers Joe
