Hi How long have you had the car this was a known issue with software in the gearbox and updates sorted it there was known issues with 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st, there was also issues with surging when the gearbox was warming up If you have the gearbox serviced at Jaguar they update the gearbox and reset adatations when they do the filter, oil and sleeve service on the gearbox gearbox service usually makes it drive smoother, sounds like it shifted to 1st to harsh, so could be software I'd wait and see if it gets worse cheers Joe

Hi If your selling, like I said it does'nt make a big difference on price, but it would sell a lot quicker with a mot If you can take lots of pictures of the car, list any options it has and show any history it got personally if it in good condition, I'd put it through a mot, it will sell a lot quicker cheers Joe
-
Hi Like above have a look on the trader and ebay, for similar spec cars to give you a rough idea the no MOT does not usually make much difference to value, but it will get less interest of buyer but this makes a good bargaining tool check the whole car, dont go off the mot, a different mot tester will do his own checks also check on apps like "vehicle smart" app or online at cazana, for the cars mot history, especially corrosion and use any info as a bargaining tool also consider into the price getting the car home, driving it nowadays can trigger lots of fines, with ANPR cameras every where cheers Joe

Hi Paul This can some times be the window motor, there's a position sensor on the motor and this could of failed another problem can be the wires in the door shut snap, causing faults on the door module cheers joe

Hi Stuart most generic ones will read most engine fault codes, but only engine codes I have a cheap elm 327 bluetooth adapter off ebay, just for monitoring the engine and sensors for less than a tenner, allow you to read and reset fault codes, using software like Torque or dash command apps A lot of people buy Icarsoft LRII, there a bit dearer but can do a lot more functions, think there just over £100. and for the more serious jaguar maintainer there's a mongoose lead, with Jaguar IDS/SDD software, this is what jaguar use and you can do every thing jaguar can, these are also around the £100 mark as well. the basic generic code reader is ideal for basic diagnosing, but don't allways believe the description on the fault code, the fault code should be accurate, but the description will be generic, go off the jaguar faults code description and you cant go wrong cheers Joe
-
Hi Could be one of many things, only way to be sure is to plug in and see what fault codes there is If you find any codes let us know and i can look them up in jtis cheers Joe.

Hi and Welcome Its a common issue with the X-types Ive always upgraded to HID headlights, really bright and quite reliable I like the 8K color as it has a blue tint to it but 6K is supposed to be the brightest most people now are switching to LED bulbs, but I don't think there quite there yet, LED are bright and low ish current, but when you get to high wattage like you need in a headlight, they also get hot, so there week spot at the moment is heat and power supply failure, most headlight LED bulbs either have large heat sinks or fans built into them or a combo of both, which means they need good ventilation and you also can't put the covers back on on the rear of the lights, so your light eventually get dirty inside cheers Joe

Hi changing your driving style might help when you go on a run on the motorway, just keep it in a lower gear for 10 minutes or so, try to keep the revs raised for that 10 minutes not bouncing off the red, but with higher revs than normal, its not speed you need , just higher revs, by keeping your revs raised it will get the dpf up to temperature and remove any buildup in your dpf the dpf relies on temp to burn off the build up and throw it out as soot, if your cruising at low revs, the dpf never get hot enough to burn the buildup off when you get to a certain back pressure in the exhaust system, it bring on a regen and the dpf light come on, but when it clears, it only clearing enough just to clear the fault by keeping your revs up at regular intervals, to get the dpf hot and clear it self will eliminate the need for manual regens when the warning light come on some people recommend additives, to keep it clear, but it not required cheers Joe

Hi 12.4 volts with engine running is too low, check that your alternator is charging, as it sound like it is, because you said you had 14.3 volts at the battery you need to check agaim when the fault is on and see what the voltage is on the dash and the battery with a multimeter, just to confirm the battery is charging, but for some reason the car electronic only thinks its see a lower voltage which would lead me think, you either have a bad connection somewhere, or a bad earth give a low voltage on a control unit, cheers Joe
-
HI Same here, I'd retrace were you have been, and see if you have disturbed any thing I found a wiring diagram if that helps here http://www.jagstyperegister.com/images/maintdocs/stypewiring.pdf cheers Joe
-
Hi Yes its the same 8 speed ZF box, but not sure what year they started Personally if I could afford it it would be the 5L for me, though I love the 4.2L V8 Supercharged in mine I thought the 4.2's were 6 speed and 5.0 were 8 speed, usually looking at them J-gate, 6 speed and pop up gear selector 8 speed cheers Joe

hi You need a multi meter and test what voltage you have there, no point guessing You should have over 12volts at all times, more towards the 12.5 volts with engine off with engine running it should be over 14 volts ideally 14volts to 14.5 volts, if it drops below 13.5volts running alternators it faulty, below 12.5 volts alternator fried most alternators have brushes in them that connect to the armature, varying the voltage on the armature alters the alternator output, so as the brushes start to fail, alternator output current can fluctuate intermittent, until they fail all together, usual symptoms lights when on, lights brightness can flicker or fluctuate you need to check the voltage on the battery and see what you get, if you get 14.5 volts and the battery light is on, then the fault could be elsewhere also you can put the dash in diagnostic mode and monitor what voltage the battery is, but recommend using a multi meter first on the actual battery cheers Joe

Hi Post some pics up cheers Joe -
Hi You will only get what people are prepared to pay for it I would look on autotrader and ebay for similar spec ones and that would give you a starting price then look at your own and adjust the price, for lower mileage, service history, and any extra features/options that others dont have if you over price people just wont look at it, but most people are prepared to pay extra for lower mileage, service history and options other don't have cheers Joe

Hi Ive had it before on other cars, not the s-type they have a switch on the wiper motor, that gives it its park position, usually its all greased up and Ive found on a couple of cars the grease dry's up and stop it working correct all I did was clean the contact up with wd 40 and then re-apply fresh grease but on the s-type its most probably just as easy just to replace the wiper motor cheers Joe
-
Hi and Welcome I also Have the S-type R, which always manages to put a grin on my face Post some pics up of your car cheers Joe

hi Is it 5 speed or 6 speed does the D light up in drive, in not it does not know its in drive, might want cable adjusting does it work on manual j-gate side , also does 2, 3, 4,or 5 light up you need to plug with software really, might just be a simple fault or sensor, a descent auto box specialist should be able to sort it cheers Joe
-
Hi if its the same as the s-type, its integrated into the rear window there's also a amplifier for it aswell cheers Joe

3 ltr v6 diesel jag xf premium lux timing belt
JOE-DOT-COM replied to captain Alan's topic in Jaguar XF Club
HI I did'nt think 3.0tdv6 has a timing belt cheers Joe -
HI Yes it did, but it can be retro fitted, to 2002 onwards, the bluetooth module plugs in where the phone does but some of the wires need swapping in the connector in the armrest and on the connector in the boot on the phone module, its quite straight forward cheers Joe
