hi you should be able to get the speedometer/dash repaired, there led's, but some had faults and failed also if you buy used or new speedometer/dash they need to be programed to the car, using jaguar software cheers Joe

Hi Sounds like your electric radiator cooling fans have stopped working get them checked try not to overheat it too many times as it will damage the cylinder heads personally if it were mine I would not drive it till its sorted thanks Joe

HI If you mean ambient light, it comes on with the lights and lights up the gear shift area, subtly also check the module in the boot for water, they some time leak in, or just could be a bad connection cheers Joe

Hi David They look great, should be good quality with the calipers been bosch I've tried drilled and grooved discs before and did not like them, found them quite noisey the discs look like comline, Ive used the standard ones before and seemed good quality, you fit them straight out of the bag, no need to clean, there coated to stop them rusting and also help the pads bed in let us know how you go on cheers Joe

Hi All S-type R engines are great, all 4.2 had no issues with nikasil bores or chains or tensioner, that was solely on the 4.0l, when the 4.2 came these were all resolved and as all S-type R are 4.2 there fine. main issues with the engine is the Valley pipe, a coolant hose buried in the V, that balloons with the heat and burst, £20 for the hose about £500 to £800 for the labour check for any rattling as supercharger coupling can fail, causing a noisy supercharger, generally if abused engine and gearbox should be silky smooth and should have plenty of go as for all s-type check Sills, Sills, Sills, they can rot terrible here and still pass a mot, it hidden by a plastic cover remove to see, also if sills are bad usually rear arches will have bubbles of rust leading to sills. there's a lot of bushes on the S-type and if the cars been abused, then they can eat bushes, like I said it should drive silky smooth, no knocking or rattling if its pre 2005 it will have Brembo brakes all round, make sure they work ok, also check the EPB works ok, try it a few times as they can be trouble some, brembo's had a seperate caliper at the rear solely for handbrake, later cars went more to cost effecting brakes and in my opinion not as good as the brembo's, brembo's had 2x 4pot calipers at the front and 2x 4pot caliper at the rear and a seperate parking brake caliper at the rear, later cars had, 2x 1pot calipers front, 2x 1pot caliper rear, with integral parking brake. make sure the heating and aircon works, trouble some DCCV can cause problems and be expensive to fix lift the boot mat, there prone to leaking water inside the boot from above the rear lights check both keys work, all the functions, just because it comes with 2 keys don't assume both work, can be expensive to reprogram and replace the STR's have HID headlights, there self leveling, every time you switch the ignition on they do a dance, they go all the way up, then all the way down and then level, if they dont, either a sensor has failed, or adjusters inside the headlight have broke, they can be replaced, but very time consuming, bumper has to come off to remove headlights and any faults need jaguar IDS/SDD software to be plugged in to clear brake pipes also corrode, right next to the fuel tank, there a mare to do, fuel tank has to be dropped a good one will come with lots of history and receipts/bills, service history is great, a must really see what options it has, mine came fully loaded, 2003, 2004 came as a R plus and had more items a standard, can make a difference to value, features like phone, bluetooth, Audio connectivity Module, Jaguar voice, adaptive cruise, Jaguar tracker, 16 way adjustable memory seats, adjustable pedals, rear entertainment screens, Alpine premium sound system apart from that there brill, I bought a low mileage one , with full jaguar service history, its gone up over 2.5k in value in just 2 years and is serious fun, never had any issues with mine, but is been well looked after cheers Joe

Hi Jon Yes that hose looks different to mine, 2004, mine uses a standard tension hose clip looks like they updated them to a push fit one and retaining clip I tried make a list of all the hoses on my 2004 STR and it took me ages find all the part numbers I wist they did a kit with a full hose set for them, or even better a silicone hose set, that would be great fit and forget next year I going to replace the valley pipe on mine, it had one a few years ago, so should be ok for a while when i change the valley pipe, I going to go with Evans waterless coolant, I use it in my other car and dirt bikes and its brill it never boils over, it lasts for years and years and there no pressure, you can take the expansion cap off while the fans are running, nothing happens, no water no pressure cheers Joe

Hi Paul headlight washer pump can fail, its common on the s-type and new ones are available on ebay they are separate circuits but both work off the wiper washer switch, only the headlights have to be on for the headlight washers and I think they only wash the headlights every sixth operation could be the headlight washer failed a while ago and was never noticed and now they have both failed maybe worth checking all the connection on the washer bottle, as it can get quite damp down there in the wet cheers Joe

Hi Might be propshaft, rubber couplings between the propshaft section there a rubber coupling/ doughnut, the rubber breaks up and can cause a clunk going on and off the power cheers Joe

Hi How long have you had the car this was a known issue with software in the gearbox and updates sorted it there was known issues with 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st, there was also issues with surging when the gearbox was warming up If you have the gearbox serviced at Jaguar they update the gearbox and reset adatations when they do the filter, oil and sleeve service on the gearbox gearbox service usually makes it drive smoother, sounds like it shifted to 1st to harsh, so could be software I'd wait and see if it gets worse cheers Joe

Hi If your selling, like I said it does'nt make a big difference on price, but it would sell a lot quicker with a mot If you can take lots of pictures of the car, list any options it has and show any history it got personally if it in good condition, I'd put it through a mot, it will sell a lot quicker cheers Joe

Hi Like above have a look on the trader and ebay, for similar spec cars to give you a rough idea the no MOT does not usually make much difference to value, but it will get less interest of buyer but this makes a good bargaining tool check the whole car, dont go off the mot, a different mot tester will do his own checks also check on apps like "vehicle smart" app or online at cazana,for the cars mot history, especially corrosion and use any info as a bargaining tool also consider into the price getting the car home, driving it nowadays can trigger lots of fines, with ANPR cameras every where cheers Joe

Hi Paul This can some times be the window motor, there's a position sensor on the motor and this could of failed another problem can be the wires in the door shut snap, causing faults on the door module cheers joe

Hi I know if you use a K&N filter, you have to clean the maf regular as the oil from the filter is transfered to the maf, Might just be dirty cheers Joe
