Hi Colin Is your car petrol or diesel cheers joe
-
Hi If your taking about the type that plug into the diagnostic socket, then don't bother they don't do anything, there just a gimmick To get any proper and safe upgrade in power, then it has to be mapped and checked on a rolling road you can get plug in units for diesels, but they don't plug the diagnostics obd socket, they plug in inline with the ecu and I'm not sure if there available for jaguar diesels mapping and rolling road is the on safe way to go cheers Joe

hi how bad are they, post some pics up you do see them on ebay sometimes cheers joe

Hi Could be, bit a damp in the right place, can give you a right nightmare cheers Joe

Hi Tim Could be one of many thing really, Have you checked for any fault codes? If I were mine, I'd start with a new set of spark plugs, but also it could be a coil pack if you change the plugs, they should be a nice light brown/tan color, if you get one plug that's black/sooty that could be the problem one if plugs don't cure it and you are getting a odd colored plug compared to the others, swap the coil pack with another cylinder and take it for a run and see if the dirty plug shifts to the new position also check the coil pack connectors for corrosion, this can also cause this cheers Joe

hi Barrie post some pics up, cheers Joe

HI looking at the info below, it could be a faulty cylinder head temp sensor or cooling fan controller looks like its controlled from the engine ecu, can't see this failing, but temp sensor is possible or fan controller also here a manual might help http://www.the-colliers.net/docs/public/guides & manuals/Jaguar Workshop Manual X-Type 2001-2009.pdf hope this helps cheers joe

Hi Martin I have this on mine and i quite like it they do go off after about 15 mins, when the control unit cuts the 12v feed its because they use a switched negative on all most every thing on the car, where the bulb is fed with a permanent 12v and the negative is switched via a control unit, there is a slight leakage as you say, that stays there to monitor the bulb, to see if its healthy or not it will not do any harm, its something you don't see with a normal bulb as the resistance of a normal bulb is too low to make it glow, but the voltage is still there, but because the bulb now has a led bulb in it now, that slight voltage leakage makes it glow slightly, but like i said it does go off after about 10 to 15 mins I'm sure the "can bus error free" will do the same, "can bus error free" bulbs have a tiny chip in them that talk to the cars ecu that tell the car the bulb is healthy, our car bulb are not can bus type bulbs have a look here https://www.superbrightleds.com/blog/can-bus-led-bulbs/293/ cheers Joe

hi Quentin if you have any history with it have a look through it, as a lot of classics get converted when they have engine work the valve seats need replacing, as its all ready running on unleaded the timing should of all ready been adjusted to suit found this, have a look here http://www.thevintagecar.co.uk/convertingvintagecarsunleadedpetrol.html cheers joe

Hi Paul just out of curiosity, what ipod do you use cheers joe
-
Hi I think this is a worth while upgrade, especially if you thinking of keeping it for a good while I have a s-type with the touch screen and premium alpine sound and would say its quite a good sound system, sound quality is very good, especially if you can drop on a audio connectivity module, which allows you to plug in a ipod, aux input and a usb flash drive and play mp3's through the touch display and through voice control. and as for the sat nav, 2012 is the newest map you can get, but its quite a good system for its age, puts some other sat nav's to shame, if you could get up to date maps, it would be a great system, once you get use to it cheers joe
-
hi usually as long as the new one has more wires than the original, it should be ok but like paul says, if you point which pin it is, we can tell you what its for cheers Joe
-
Hi I don't think you can go back to the old climate control panel. more than sure the wiring harness is different, its not plug and play personally I would not bother its too much hassle I bought a Geartist GB01, its a bluetooth fm transmitter, tune it in to a fm channel and pair it to you phone and you can play all your music from your phone through the car, sound quality is very good and i like it as you can use all the feature from your phone hands free, or you could go down the PARROT MKI9200 route which also a good route and much easier cheers Joe

White smoke when accellerating in lower gears
JOE-DOT-COM replied to prof9's topic in Jaguar Owners Lounge
HI I would go with a coolant issue, with white smoke Turbo seals usually gets blue smoke and soon followed with excessive oil consumption are you getting it all the time, now the weather has shifted to the cold, you will get a fair amount of steam/white type smoke, while the engine is cold, if it all clears up once warm, this is normal this time of year. if its a coolant issue, you will get coolant being used, if your not using any coolant or oil use, I would not worry too much cheers Joe -
hi if you go on the jaguar topix site, you can register for free and it will give you the spec of your car and whether its due any recalls https://topix.jaguar.jlrext.com/topix/vehicle/lookupForm cheers joe

Hi My S-type R use to do it terrible, really loud and it had genuine jaguar pads I have since changed to EBC red stuff, for 3 reasons, now they don't squeal, I get next to no brake dust and they stop better But there not the cheapest but usually with squealing brakes you just remove the pads, clean them, clean the slides and copper grease on the rear of the pad and usually stops it, but if yours has the brembo brakes then it a common issue on these, I know some people with brembo's say the only fix is to buy anti squeal shims, there use to be a guy on ebay that use to sell them, a thin stainless shim, that goes between the pad and the caliper and these are known to cure it, once and for all cheers Joe
