hi mark on this one, the only way is to plug in and see where the fault is could be one of many faults really, as there's a few airbags, there's also a few sensors on the passengers side, could also also be something like the clock spring on the drivers steering wheel, they also don't like flat batteries which can also cause faults the only way is to plug in with software and see what the fault is cheers Joe

Hi Andrew your old headlight with the loose reflector, all thats up with it, is broken adjusters there available on ebay, in a better resin that will last and won't break again, there quite easy to replace and don't take that long your headlights will eventually go loose and these adjuster will break because they go so brittle and break I did mine and it's something I can forget about now, have a look on youtube, there's video's on how to do cheers Joe

The Eternal BTUM (Bluetooth Module) Problem
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Matt9711's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Mathew If you have added bluetooth module to your 2003 car, they don't usually work, if its the bluetooth module in the armrest the wires in the connector are in the wrong position on pre 2005 cars you will need to swap some wires about on the bluetooth connector in the armrest and some on the connector on the phone module in the boot if you wanted the easy fit you have to fit the later module, black plastic one thats phone and bluetooth in one unit, that goes in the boot, where the phone module is and you need a additional bluetooth antenna for the later module you have to make sure its wired as below, first you need to check you have 8 wires in the bluetooth connector in the armrest, you'll notice the wire position in the connector, don't tally with the wires in the bluetooth unit. if you have 8 wires, you can get the bluetooth working next look at the connector bluetooth in armrest, the pins are numbered, draw a pic and write what colors go where also some of the wires in the phone module will be in the wrong place, this is because earlier cars were wired for phone handsets not bluetooth I think when you check the wiring you'll find 2 wires are in the right place the other six are wrong you need to alter them so , as wiring diagram below pin 1 phone module goes to pin 3 bluetooth connector pin 26 phone module goes to pin 2 bluetooth connector pin 2 phone module goes to pin 8 bluetooth connector pin 3 phone module goes to pin 9 bluetooth connector pin 6 phone module goes to pin 1 bluetooth connector pin 10 phone module goes to pin 7 bluetooth connector pin 22 phone module goes to pin 6 bluetooth connector pin 20 phone module goes to pin 5 bluetooth connector easiest way to do it is unplug the phone module connector and bluetooth connector reposition the wires in the bluetooth connector so connections 3, 2, 8, 9, 1, 7, 6, 5, all with wires in, then write down what color wire you have in each number then rearrange the color wire in the phone connector to correspond with the drawing, so if you put yellow in pin 3 in bluetooth connector, find yellow in the phone connector and put it in pin 1, 2 wires should be correct when you check so yo should only need to rearrange 6 wire and then your bluetooth will work on both connectors there a plastic lock clip, you have to remove so the pins can be removed, you also need a thin wire, that has to be slotted down the front of the connector to unlock it so its slides out, once the wire's are clicked in the correct pin, the plastic clip lock is replaced which locks the pin in position had to do it on mine, works like a dream now cheers joe -
Hi The oil in the spark plug recess is oil leaking from the cam cover you could try just nipping up the bolts, just nipp them up don't over tighten them, you want to use a small ratchet like a 1/4 one. don't use a 1/2 ratchet and tighten them right up they might strip the thread. then get some rag, cut it in strips, and poke it down there i with a thin screwdriver while hold the other end of the strip of rag, so you rag remove the rag easy, to mop the oil up. the oil should not really cause a misfire, as oil won't create a short, but if there's moisture or damp there it can cause a misfire nipping the cam cover might stop the leak and you have nothing to lose it should'nt cost too much to have that gasket replace on the next service as theres plenty of access on you engine if i remember right I,d change the plugs, if they hav'nt been done recent, and just clean the oily coil pack, with something like WD40 its also worth, checking all the plugs on the coil packs are clean and no corroded connections, I allways put a quick squirt of WD40 on all connectors like that, keeps the contacts clean and the rubber seal soft, supple and keeps it watertight for the future cheers Joe

Cheap, high mileage S-Type R, should I ?
JOE-DOT-COM replied to The Voices's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Jon If the cars sound and mechanically sweet, then it may be worth a dabble especially if your going to do the work your self, just remember at this mileage it may want a few service items in the future like the coolant hose in the valley, if it not been done, then its due, gearbox service oils/filters/sleeve, check the the brakes, later type brakes are more troublesome. later R's also have variable timing, produces no extra power, solely for emissions, but if it don't work, you actually lose power. with this mileage it may also want some bushes and dont forget to check them sills, most important if you do the work yourself, then it can be a bargain, but if it has to go the garage every time, if might be worth buying a sorted one, cheaper in the long run cheers Joe -
HI I'd change the auto trans oil, If the oil is low on a auto it can cause the torque converter to slip too much the oil in auto it critical as auto is all mainly works with hydraulics and no or low means a drop in pressure and will cause lots of problems cheers Joe

Cheap, high mileage S-Type R, should I ?
JOE-DOT-COM replied to The Voices's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi Jon well if you say "its not as quick as i remembered" , then there's definately something wrong with it its should pull like a train and mine supprises me every time use it. both of the codes are the same lambda sensor 1 bank 1 HO2S, could be just the sensor, or could be the cat, I've seen these unplugged or a wire cut, so people think its a easy fix, then when you replace it the fault shifts, to cats. do you the reg no, did you check mot history, still sounds not too bad, but I'd of thought with it been a garage for the sake of the cost of one lambda, they would of replaced it, so to ask more money for it. cheers Joe -
Hi yes well found I'd link it out with some domestic 5amp fuse wire, at least then you still have some protection you dont want to damage anything further back nice find though, I allways take things apart and check them first, most things are usually repairable cheers Joe

Hi David I look at the sunroof area, the sunroof control module is there if you un plug the connector you can test you have a good supply there 12volts (pin 1 red/green) and a good earth (pin 4 black) plus with the connector plugged in you can test if your getting 12v to the sunroof motor connections (pin 2 yellow and pin 3 white) it might be just stuck if its not been used in ages also usually when you remove the cover to expose the sunroof motor, theres usually on most cars a tool clipped there that you can slot in the motor as a emergency to wind the sunroof closed or open. link to wiring manual for your car https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/77859730/x2001999.25en.pdf cheers joe

Hi you pair your phone with the phone bluetooth module to make calls, you can't pair your phone to jaguar voice, you make commands through jaguar voice, but your phone must be paired with the bluetooth module the usb socket in your car is part of the parrot system, it enable you to use a flash drive and play music off it through your parrot hands free system some jaguars do have a usb and ipod connector in the arm rest and that is the ACM audio connectivity module, this allows you to play music through a flash drive and ipod through the jaguar speakers and can be controlled via jaguar voice cheers Joe

HI The silicone hose, will just be a replacement, silicone hoses are better last longer, handle more heat and much great pressures sometimes if there just standard elbows or straight, siicone hoses are available and make a much better replacement cheers Joe

hi as simon said, it can't be done I bought a GEARTIST GB01 there only a tenner now on amazon and the quality is crystal clear, its a bluetooth fm transmitter and full hands free you mount it in the car and tune it to a spare fm channel, the lower end is better then you pair your phone with it and any thing on your phone is played through the car stereo its also got full hand free built in, if you havnt got bluetooth, but i turn the handsfree option off on my phone, so all the calls come through the cars bluetooth and all the music come through the car speakers, well recomended, I paid £20 for mine, which i thought was great value for the quality, but there only £10 now, superb value plus if you have a android phone, you can use the ok google function, by saying ok google at any time, you can make calls, send text messages, set reminders and alarms and much more all by voice, I press the voice button on the steering wheel, which mute the stereo and say ok google, jaguar voice does'nt recognise it but your phone does , i just use this as a mute. cheers Joe

Cheap, high mileage S-Type R, should I ?
JOE-DOT-COM replied to The Voices's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi If its cheap, then its usually cheap for a reason what year is it make sure you check all the obvious, do you know the reg no, do a mot history check to see what advisories its has check sills and take it for a test drive cheers Joe -
hi could be one of many things really the intake temp sensor is normal, if you unplug them it will default to some fault values and keep running, it will of logged a fault though easiest way would be to get a diagnostic tool plugged in and see if there are any faults it could be something as simply as a dirty throttle body or idle valve, could be plugs or a coil pack but best way would be to get it plugged in to some diagnostics what engine is it cheers Joe

Hi David both power fold and non power fold, will fold by hand I'd try removing the covers, pull the cover up at the bottom where the pivot is and the wires go through, use something like wd40 and soak that area and it should free off put a rag under the mirror, because it will drip on the door for ages also by removing the cover and using a torch you can see if its power fold, there a black unit by the inside pivot point with wires on it, if it there then its power fold, if not its not cheers joe

hi I did mention timing chains and tensioners tensioners on 4.0 v8 were plastic, they went brittle, fell bits and could basically destroy a good engine later ones were metal, as used on all the 4.2's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TuxQxwL2WA some early 4.0 v8's also suffered with the nicasil coating coming off the cylinder bores, which can also destroys the engine ( nicasil is like a hard chrome plating which is electroplated on the aluminium bores, you get longer lasting bores and less piston resistance as the piston rings dont need to be as tight in the bores to seal, so more power and durability, generally used on all aluminium engines and aluminium sleeve type bores, but some early 4.0 the nicasil failed and peeled in the bores.) the 4.0 had a few issue's, but all these were addressed when the 4.2. was released. don't get me wrong the 4.0 is a good engine if sorted, but the 4.2 is better out of the box. cheers Joe

Hi Yes there great, when you press the memory button, it remembers steering column height and reach, all the positions of the seat, even head rest height and both mirrors and you get 4 memory positions as well 2 for each key, so you dont have press a button, if you have his and hers keys, it remembers the last memory no used by both keys also if you leave the steering/pedal joystick in auto, every time you pull the keys out, the steering wheel moves out of your way, I leave this on steering so it does not do this. cheers Joe

Hi Scott My STR all ways runs with the temp gauge at halfway, but in the morning its all way starts with the temp gauge at cold, all the way to the left It only takes a short while for the engine to warm up, the V8's warm up quite quick try switching the ignition on and waiting a while, if it does'nt drop with 30seconds then it sounds like you possibly have a faulty/lazy temp gauge cheers Joe

This is very true, The 4.2 is a better engine and will have much better spec and there should be a few with similar millage cheers Joe
