  1. Hi, There's a new general invite Jaguar monthly breakfast meet at the British Motor Museum Gaydon that starts on 2nd April if that's of interest. Cover the areas you list. Starts at 9:30, I'll be going. Geoff
  2. John, Glad you mentioned the timing chain, I had forgotten about them! The chain itself isnt necessarily the potential issue. The main issue was the plastic secondary timing chain tensioners and there tendency to fail. A noticeable engine noise while idling or during a cold start can indicate an issue. Rough or uneven engine idle is another symptom. Im sure the XJS's were V12's. The XJ's 97-03 were all V8's in either 3.2 or 4.0. Geoff
  3. That's the issue isn't it, you might have to wait a bit longer to find the right one within distance. That one is lwb Geoff
  4. Hello John, Are you thinking along these lines? Looks really nice. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-Daimler-XJ-Series-4-0-V8-4dr-/272170233903?hash=item3f5e9c302f:g:-2wAAOSwFNZWxyqy
  5. Hello John, I used to own a 1998 XJR and it is indeed a wonderful machine. The main concern as you have suggested is finding one with lowish miles that fits the budget and preferably an engine swap. The originals did suffer with the Nikasil lining issues so that would be your main thing to look out for. I know others will point you to other potential things. You can get a reasonable one with lots of history for less than £3k with 116K on the clock on Ebay at time of writing. I often wonder about going back to an earlier model and I would certainly now opt for an X300 XJR. Not sure if you are a fan or not? but Id say for the budget you'd find something decent. They are getting rare though now when I have a look. Are you not a fan of the S-Type? You'll get plenty for your money
  6. Fitted new lip spoiler. Took 2 minutes and very happy.
  7. @Old Peter Hi, why the oil pump out? P.S gritters while a necessary safety tool, do make have their down sides!
  8. Treated the new wheels to 4no. new Uniroyal Rainsport 3's followed by lots of washing!
  9. These would look nice. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAGUAR-X351-MERU-18-ALLOY-WHEELS-GENUINE-BRAND-NEW-/252204696098?hash=item3ab8924222:g:79MAAOSw8-tWZ~OU
  10. Good video Allan, I have temperamental flap issues so can now look in to it with a bit more knowledge Thanks,
  11. Hi Jim I completely understand what they mean, unfortunately this is my first experience in wheel refurb, it's just the one that needs a tidy so I can sell all 4. I'll know for next time and hopefully they have also learnt to be clearer with customers. It's sort of worked ok as there is another company I've found who are cheaper and say they don't need more than the one wheel! I'll be taking 2 anyway just to be sure.
  12. Phoned Pristine Alloy Wheels Milton Keynes earlier in the week to arrange for a single wheel refurb, told them exactly what I wanted doing, a single wheel refurb in shadow chrome. They said no problem just drop the wheel down and they will sort it, £123.00. Excellent I thought. 40 minute drive first thing in the morning, got there an the guy says cant guarantee a match on this, do you have another wheel! Yes I do have another one but why wasnt I told that on the phone before wasting my time driving all the way here! Complete waste of my time, not happy at all
  13. Senta's, nice! I looked at them for mine before I found the Volans, which are off now, for sale soon. Not pushing them btw, just saying What tyres are you going for? I used Kumho on my rears which are excellent.
  14. @JimC64 she certainly does deserve a look. Can I ask what sort of wheels you have picked?
  15. Hi all, Haven't been running the ST much over the winter months but pulled her out today for the MOT. Passed the MOT - needed an indicator bulb Had a new auxiliary belt fitted - old one was a bit tatty and was squealing in the cold Air conditioning fix (again) - this time was wire rot behind bumper, all running lovely now for the summer Oil and filter change - have this done on any visit to the garage With the new wheels on and everything running sweetly, I'm a very happy Jag owner
  16. Got some 18's to replace the 20's. Need to refurb one of the 20 Volans then they will be for sale.
  17. Ditto all, been a manic time! Hope you all have a fun and trouble free motoring year. Im sad to admit that the S Type is tucked up in the garage for the winter.
  18. ^_^ Sound advice Elizabeth. Good style never gets old though.
  19. Id like it to be an XE R Sport 240PS but in reality its going to be a mint STR or XJR (X308) again.
  20. It can soon add up! Ill pm you later.
  21. Hi Trevor, Your probably not far from me. I have a set of 18 splits in storage. Ill take some pics soon. If your interested you can hear what my V8 sounds like with the exhaust done too before you decide what to do.
  22. It is true they are designed to run on 95 RON. Mine isn't new though and over 10 years old with over 100K on the clock, so I use the premium fuel to keep the performance up where it should be and keep down carbon deposits etc. I think it would be even more appropriate for the supercharged higher performance versions. I also use Wynns injector cleaner every few thousand miles. I find the following is a good read. http://www.caranddriver.com/features/regular-or-premium Geoff
  23. Hi, I most frequently use Tesco Momentum 99 in my V8 but don't have any concerns with Shell V Power or even ESSO Synergy Supreme+. Ironically the higher rated Tesco variant is the cheapest around me. I also use the Tesco in my twin turbo Legacy with no issues. I do not use 95 RON petrol, ever.
  24. Thanks guys for the warm welcome. Frank - thank you and I couldn't resist them when I saw them up for sale, the colours go perfectly. Peter - absolutely! mines never seen 95RON since Ive owned it and has been serviced every 3-4K miles. Geoff
  25. Hi, I have had my 4.2 S-Type for quite a while now and cant see it going. I have previously owned an X308 XJR which was amazing and I still regret selling it. I love the marque full stop. Since owning the car I have had to replace the AC unit (common fault I gather). Other than that its been very good to me. I replaced the tatty split rims with some XF 20" wheels which just and I mean just fit, with the need of a 2-3mm spacer on the backs. The exhaust has been modified with a customer stainless system which is pretty evident if your near by :o . The only other thing I have changed is the panel filter, replacing it with a made to order ITG version. My other car and daily driver is a Subaru Legacy BH5 GTB. That fulfills my manual turbo itch :) Pictures
