Hi Ian and welcome, My first thought was "Warped discs" then again, could be dirt build up on the pad/disk. Had all four discs, pads, calipers and fluid done on my Xtype a couple of thousand ago with no issues. Try a brake cleaner first and go from there, Sorry I can't help more. Regards Andrew

Hi both, very easy to fit and they are very secure and do not move at all, essentially, for the side windows, they sit within the door rubber moulding/seal recess and thus allows the window to operate as normal there are a couple of clips on the top frame section. For the rear window, they sit behind the roof lining and side moulding. I've attached a few more pics below to illustrate. I was a bit sceptical on the fit but be assured they are an excellent fit, they are constructed from a sprung type steel bar that is a perfect fit to the window frame with a reassuring "pop" into place.

Thanks, David, I don't do the servicing myself, there's a really good Indy a couple of miles up the road from us who has been doing our cars for 7 years and his labour rate is only £40 per hour, he's such a good guy. I took her in for a new gasket on the water pump along with a hose replacement and he only charged me the labour as he had the genuine parts on the shelf, rare old thing these days. all the cleaning and polishing is down to me though. Hi Bryan and welcome, dont worry about the age thing, I think it's down to personal choice, I was first bitten by an E Type at the age of 5 and now in my 50's. If Jaguars appeal then go for it, for me, it's all about the style, interiors and engines. I am now on my second X type, the first did 200k. Rust wise, these issues were sorted from 2004my onwards, so you should be ok apart from stone chips etc, you can check along the sill plate area, if there is any evidence of rust you will see it above the sill cover towards the chrome "Jaguar" sill trim. If there is any rust bubbling there then it's likely the sills will have some corrosion. You could also consider a Waxoil treatment to the underside and sub frames for added protection. allways have my cars serviced on the dot and so far never had any big surprises. X types are very reliable if you look after them. Cheers Andrew

I liked the idea of window tints to help with shading in hot weather, but did not like the permenancy or that they could scratch easily compared to glass. Did a search on the net and found Car Shades.com. Custom made window blinds that create the same effect as tints but allowing you to remove when not required. Ordered and delivered on a next day service for £74.00. excellent service and really easy to fit. Hi Rob, Modifications are a personal choice and far from me to advise, however, I'm not sure black rim refurb will suit the X type. I will be having my alloys restored back to original spec and think this suits the classic lines and spec. just my thoughts Andrew

You're absolutely right, Tony, it's a Jag not a car , My wife always says "we're going in the Jag" with a wink. We have a few cars at the ready, but the Jag is in pole position. something special about a Jag. Regards Andrew

Hi Gary and welcome, great couple of cars you have there, my cousin has the MGZT with the mustang engine, awesome car, pretty sure your Freelander has the same engine as my X Type. you won't go wrong in acquiring a Jaguar, they stir the soul in us. Hi Neal and welcome, just dropping into the conversation as I noted the issue you have, my first Jag was a 2.0d sport estate and I had an issue very similar to yours, It turned out to be a fuel filter problem. My Car did 200k when I sold her and had a few FF in that time. It started with the same symptoms and if left it would eventually go into safe mode when you pushed on a bit. Not heard of the jumpyness in 5th at 50-57 though, that's a new one on me. as the guys have said previously, get her back to the dealer and get them to give it a thorough going over to fault find. all the best Andrew

Hi Steve, just for ref, mine starts at 1200rpm, after 15 secs it drops to 1000rpm then after about a minute it drops to 750rpm. I'm getting around 37/38 on a run and 25 around town. I have the 2.5 which is pretty similar I believe. Cheers Andrew

This got my reminiscing, Peter. Back in 1986 C plate, I bought a new MG Maestro 1.6 in black, the one with the talking Computor ! a beauty, had a couple of Cibis fitted to the front. One thing I remember was having it into the garage every couple of months to have the dual Webber's balanced, had some good times in that car and a rally filter fitted to give it more growl. This would be a great idea, Peter, In this neck of the woods, we are on the doorstep of Snowdonia national park giving access to some of the UK's most spectacular scenery and great touring roads etc. It's not something I would be able to organise at present though as got a house move in the near future and an op in hospital coming up. Wouldnt mind attending a meet for a bacon butty up in the mountains tho. Cheers Andrew

This is very interesting, Jim, I bought my son a great low miler Saab 9-3 last year, it's the TTid4 engine which has the same twin turbo set up, blistering performance with 65 to the gallon on a run, an amazing car. Hi Andrew and welcome, pretty sure this is standard finish for Jag boots, see pic below, I recently upgraded the boot lighting on my X type and just happen to have a pic where you can just about make out the boot roof as per yours. My intention is to put the car into a trimmers and get the boot roof/ shelf lined with a good insulated auto carpet, one thing I will also need them to do is fit vents to sit below the existing parcel shelf vents, so the boot can breath. Agreed, Peter, I observed the post a couple of days ago and felt 'oh heck' at the members comment. To be honest I did feel for the member that they felt unable to continue with their Jaguar ownership due to the amount of comments regarding owners problems, mods etc etc. Not every one wants to modify their car. Forums do condense a brands issues ( but do not give a true reliability figure per car/item ) and things look far worse than they actually are in real terms. there is not a brand on this planet that does not have issues and I am grateful to be part of a forum that can help me sort out any problems I may have with my cars. I hope the member finds peace and confidence by looking at the hundreds of positive stories and support shared here. Regards Andrew
