Hey Damon Welcome to what I believe is probably the best Jag owners club there is. Well done on your purchase as well I have just recently bought my first Jaguar which I also a s type 2001 best car I've ever owned. You will find a whole wealth of knowledge amongst the members who are really friendly and helpful. Enjoy both the club and the car mate Karl

Paul Thanks so much for your reply, this confirms my suspicions and now making me wonder if this is what is causing my gearbox fault code p0795 solenoid c preasure sensor. I done a bit of digging and found the following diagrams for the 5r55n gearbox quite useful. Thanks again for your reply Karl

Hey all I have a 2001 (y Reg) s type with the ford 5 speed auto box. do you check the oil level in the box the same way as the later boxes by removing the centre plug in the drain bolt and wait for a trickle with the engine running and upto temputure. The reason i ask is because i undone mine to check the colour of the oil which was clean but as i undone it it started to gush not trickle and was wondering if it had to much oil from previous owner. sorry if this seems a crazy question but was just curious. Thanks in advance Karl

Hey everyone. I can honestly say as a newish well actually new member, I felt very welcomed to the club, on joining I found my way round the site easy and received lots of help in the forum towards sorting my current issue with my car and that's the whole reason I became a premium member (take a little, give a little back) however I can see why some people may be put of for example look at the s type like mine not just on here but all over the net seems to be gearbox issue after gearbox issue however having said that my previous brand of car was turbo after turbo. However that's the thing with forums and the like in fact anything in life the negatives always seem to stick out more than the possitives, that said with the help of the forums and the more experienced help within them quite often turn those negatives into possitives. A problem is not a problem it's a opportunity to shine excel and cure the fault. Even with my current gearbox fault I still love waking up in the morning looking out the window and seeing my first ever jaguar (S-type 3.0 V6) gleaming on my driveway and with my fingers crossed when the parts arrive it will be fixed.

Peter thank you I will do that and let you know how I get on Karl

Just out of curiosity and for the near future has anyone succeeded in finding one of these springs (56947J-S1 4-3 pre-stroke spring) in the UK as to get one from the USA the postage is like ridiculously high. I'm just thinking worth having one for the sake of few quid in the event of having to go inside the box as if this is broke might as well change it why we there
-
Hi Jim This is quite helpful if not a little disheartening as I don't have that sort of money to get it fixed at a garage. The car was bought privately and he did write a receipt for 28 days warranty however I have tried numerous times to contact him regarding this and he completely ignores me so without taking my chances and going through the small claims court I'm at a lost end but I will certainly look at the wiring to see if there is anything obvious first Karl

Chipper hi I now got a scanner sealed A139 works great gave me a code and told me it's preasure solenoid c which is part of the solenoid pack, however think I'll have to look at it as the only solenoid packs I can find online come from USA and not entirely sure which one it is. First port of call is to try and make sure it's not just low on oil as this would also cause a preasure issue I should think, unless anyone else has had the same issue and can recommend trying anything else. But yes if anyone is near bury St edmunds in Suffolk I have a code reader should you need one. Karl
-
OK Guys I have now managed to read the code and it came up with preasure solanoid c I'm guessing this is the solanoid within the box and Simjag thanks found the gearbox details now has anyone ever changed one of these there self I'm fairly mechanically minded so don't mind taking it on if you don't need to be a brain surgeon to do so.
-
Hi Simjag Thanks for your reply, now this is interesting I've learnt something new. How can I confirm this please and more importantly find out what oil to use should I need to then would you know the box type as it's not zf sorry to sound thick but all help greatly appreciated Thanks Karl
-
Thanks Jim and yes that's a great idea so if anyone knows anyone around the bury St edmunds area of Suffolk please please get in touch thanks Karl
-
Hi Jim Thanks for your feedback, I have a Obd2 code reader but it won't read my car for some reason maybe my car is not obd2 compliant which would mean going to a garage I guess and having the code read just a shame I can't read it myself. But yes that will be the starting point and thanks for the advice on the oil. Karl

Hi Pete I have checked the left hand side of the j gate and it doesn't do it but if it's in number 4 it doesn't seem to change upto top gear, however if you then knock it over to drive it does change up then fault comes up and drops down a gear again if that makes sense

Hi all well I joined a while ago but just took out premium membership, thought I would say hi now I own a 2001 S-type SE sport 3.0 V6 and at 39 years old I love it. Apart from the gear box fault which seems has now developed, didn't pay a great deal for it but loving it. I'm hoping the gear box isn't going to be a big head ache. Any way look forward to speaking to you all over time Has full jaguar service history and covered 87'541 miles I guess low to average for the age.
-
Good morning all New to site so sorry if this have been discussed before, I recently bought a 2001 y reg with 87'500 miles on the clock and yes it's developed what seems to be a gearbox fault amber light message. Only does it in drive not if I use the left hand side of the gateway and normally only comes on when stop, slow down or speed up fast Been told to change oil but does it have to be zf lifeguard as read someone used dex6 only reason I ask is if oil is not the reason it's a very expensive option to use lifeguard to have to drain it all out again any advice much appreciated please Thanks karl

Hi Everyone new to the club but this thread has been useful as I now have the exact same problem with my 2001 y reg s type which I bought only two weeks ago, it's covered 87'000 miles but identical issue. I have a Obd2 reader but it won't read my car any suggestions on this would be useful thanks in advance
