  1. Peter and Steve it looks like your both keeping your cars well looked after so good work! I just sold my 1st 3.0 S-Type to a breaker for a hefty loss for severe corrosion underneath. A second mechanic gave me an in depth breakdown as to why....the car had been jacked up in the wrong place previously and it had basically punched holes in the underside of the car. Water then got into places it would never of done had this error not been made. No record of this on previous MOT's either or previous services. Its not about the money but is sad to see a mechanically sound car is now being broken into pieces because of neglect.
  2. Hi Dave I had a 3.0 2003 s-type auto and when it got serviced my independent jag specialist gave me a pre facelift 2000 auto to have for a day. I've heard many stories/ read reviews about how the post facelift models are much nicer... but in a direct and same day comparison I was pleasantly suprised at how well it drove and I quite liked the retro dashboard it was sporting. I have heard mechanically they are more prone to suspension wear earlier than the post facelift model and I agree with Andy about the gearbox. With such a low mileage the car must be worth a look though. Good luck!

  4. Hi David. I should of taken some more pictures because i don't collect it until saturday but I've found a pdf of the s-type brochure online. I'm thinking it's "lunar grey". I think the only thing I'll be adding will be a phone mount!

That grin when you get back in a jag after a dreadful experience in a different car...It surely can't of been as bad as the horrendous wedge shaped go kart (fiat punto) I've been driving to work this week. Not enough power to drive safely on a dual carriageway, but then again better than bus travel!
  6. Hello again Gents. Thank you for all your points this week on the post! A 2nd s-type diesel appeared near me today. An 07 plate with 104k on the clock. My girlfriend's dad kindly helped me inspect it over and it drives beautifully, like many of you said the diesel would. The garage said they will do the cambelt change and service which it's now due and I'll be picking it up next week!

  8. Peter, Gary and Andy thank you so much for this golden information, its encouraged me and really put my mind at ease as well. Its done 102k and just had the cambelt changed recently. It's an 05 so has the downward facing exhaust pipes and there are lots of other goodies like winter pack and sat-nav. This particular independent jag garage are saying they've been looking after it for 6 years as well. - I will definitely go and see this at the weekend!

So I took my 3.0 petrol to my local independent jaguar specialist for a service this weekend just gone thinking I only needed a new indicator stalk....only to be told it has severe corrosion underneath and the car would require a new shell if I wanted to get it through the next MOT. Although my pride is severely dented and I'm gutted about it, I'd like to move on and a diesel appeals to me. Today I noticed a very nice 2.7d for sale near me. Now there are some really informative posts on here for help with buying an S-Type (so I can hopefully get one that hasn't been neglected this time) but the thing that is holding me back is the words of the mechanic.....he told me to avoid the diesel model. Why would this be? Are there reliability issues? I wish id of questioned it at the time because what I'm seeing here is the prospect of better mpg, lower running costs, a newer car and some chrome finishing in slightly different places that I think I prefer. The plot thickens because the 2.7d I'm looking at is for sale from a different independent jag specialist in my area! I just wondered if any diesel owners, or those with experience with the diesel could give me some solid feedback on life with this car. This would be most appreciated so I can decide what to do! Thanks guys.

  12. Hello David. I share your pain because the model I have also had the option of the sat-nav, which I unfortunately don't have. Have you thought about getting a double Din stereo with touch screen and built in GPS? Ive also heard rumours that the S-Type sat nav maps can only be updated to around 2013 but don't know how true this is.
  13. Hi Alan. I had the same issue with the dual climate control being warm/hot all the time. I'm not a beacon of information and still learning but if it helps you I was recommended to cycle through the air-con from the lowest temperature to the highest for about 5-10 minutes and see if that flushes the system out because this has fixed the problem for other people reporting similar symptoms. Unfortunately for me I had a cracked radiator (which is the worst case scenario) and was quoted at 400ish to get it fixed from my local independent jag specialist if memory serves me correctly. Hopefully this will not be the case for you! All the best.
  14. Hi. If your still on the hunt for your s-type and you find one you like, try and get it up on a ramp before you buy to take a look underneath properly. I bought an s-type that on the face of it seemed like it had been looked after but on the underside the corrosion was so bad my local independent jaguar specialist told me to let it go because it needed a new shell. I am of course gutted and the car is still under its 3 month warranty and I'll be buying another one (probably a diesel) but that's slightly off topic. Just make sure you look out for that rust!
  15. Bought my s-type 2 months ago when i was 24. I like to think it's fiction... My Boss, friends and colleagues give me constant digs saying this is an old man's car. Then I let them sit inside, show them the gadgets and let them drive it and that shuts them up! I think anyone who wants comfort and a relaxed ride with that hidden power should get involved with these cars regardless of age. There's very few other cars like a big cat that when you pass someone who's driving the same vehicle as you, you'll get that nod of mutual respect.
