I only have one key for my x- type and could really do with a spare . Does anyone know of the best place to get one and programmed apart from the main dealers ? Cheers .

I believe the timing chain tensioners can be a big problem as they are made of plastic on certain models ,and can crack causing incorrect tension causing the chain to jump and possibly cause serious damage. Replacing them with new metal ones will be very costly . I'm no mechanic but i'm sure i read that somewhere when i was looking to buy one . I opted for a 3.0 x type in the end and am very happy with it .

Did the place you had it re-gassed at not have any idea what the problem was ?

Sill sorted and a small patch needed on the passenger side . Also a brake pipe was a bit crispy so was replaced . The car failed on emissions , but after a short blast up the dual carriageway it sailed through so happy days . I should get a few years out of her as there are only 71000 miles on the clock and only just over 600 miles since the last m o t , plus is only used as a weekend car so the mileage will be quite low year on year .

Car is booked in for m o t next week but has the dreaded sill rot on one side. My mechanic reckons it's not a problem as he has done quite a few , so will see what the result and price is next week . I've been using him for 30 years so have 100% confidence in him .

Hi Dave , i have a few little bits to be done on mine , mainly on the rear bumper but was concerned what the paint match would be like on a 13 year old car. Would be interesting to find out what yours turns out like. Regards , Andy .

I had mine done a few months ago from a fella advertising on facebook . He charged £25 and came to my house to do them . Unfortunately when i went to upgrade my headlight bulbs i noticed the reflectors were loose on both units . To cut a long story short i now have one headlight that looks brand new and the replacement i bought needs doing now. Well worth getting someone to do them for that price.

As above , any car make / model can develop faults . You could buy two brand new cars , service them exactly the same and one could be trouble free and the other a dog . That's just cars for you . I have experienced both and a few problems here and there wouldn't put me off any model of car . The only thing i look out for when buying a car are known common expensive faults , which need to be considered before buying .

Hi John , good luck with the car i'm sure it will bring you a lot of pleasure . I'm from Grimsby so just up the road from you. My friend is from Barton and i sometimes jump on the train to meet him for a pint or three. Nice little place .

Check Engine Light and Cruise Control

Thanks David , while the car was been serviced my mechanic found a air intake pipe not connected properly ( i think that's what he said ) . He sorted that checked emissions and thankfully they were spot on . Oh and i had popped a bottle of cataclean in the tank which i bought for a previous car , don't know if that had any effect at all just stuck it in for good measure lol . -

Not 100% sure but i was told that the bulbs are probably led's . Mine doesn't come on and my mechanic thinks someone could have snapped it off to hide a emissions problem which would have illuminated the EML . I bought the car and didn't notice the EML was not operating until i got home . My mechanic put the scanner on it and emission codes were coming up and he noticed two brand new lambda sensors had been put on . I rang the guy who i bought it off and he denied all knowledge of the EML not working and admitted it had two lambda sensors on and was fine " which it wasn't " then stopped answering his phone ( dodgy b*****d ) . -
The remote locking on my X Type is hit and miss depending where i'm stood . Sometimes have to press the lock button three or four times before it locks .

Thanks Paul , my friends son in law is some kind of engineer and has offered to do it for me . I think the mascot looks great and makes it look like a Jag should .

Very nice Frank . Great colour and liking the bonnet mascot . I've got one to put on mine , just plucking the courage up to get the drill out .

Hi Rod , yes they certainly are poor . I have been looking for a while but there are that many to choose from . I wanted a more " white light " to give a more modern look and the Diamond vision seem to have a fairly good review . I have ordered some now £35 for 4 H1s and will post the results once fitted . Regards Andy .

I'm thinking about upgrading my headlight bulbs on my x type . Has anyone fitted or tried the Phillips diamond vision bulbs ?

I have a 3.0 SE Auto and it's fantastic , very smooth and responsive. Regards , Andy .

Hi Rowley , i know what your saying but it's nowhere near as dark as it looks lol . I like my cars to look slightly different to the norm . There are lots of silver x types driving around Grimsby where i live and all look the same and probably don't get a second glance. I want mine to be noticed and stand out and people to think " that's one well looked after car * . It looks better in the flesh . Thanks for your reply it's nice to get some feedback and personal views .

Just had back windows and tail lights tinted . Not everyone's cup of tea , but i like the look and stands out from the standard look . Windows aren't as dark as they look on the photo ,

Sorry Steve, no before and after photos but yes i'm very pleased . I do think the mesh grille looks a lot better than the original and has a even bigger impact on your S type . Definitely a worthwhile cheap upgrade .
-
Looks very nice that does Steve . I did the cutting myself with a hacksaw blade as that is all i had at the time . I have now a very sore and blistered finger lol and would advise anybody else trying this to use a proper cutting tool or put some protection on your fingers . Once i had cut a few fins away i could fit the hacksaw in to finish the job off .

It's looking promising Jim . They are a very well established Peugeot dealer with a good reputation so must have had it in as a trade in . As a reputable dealer i can't see them selling any rubbish . If it was rough i think it would have gone straight to auction .

Basically will be a weekend car and will only be doing 2-3000 miles a year . My friend is a mechanic and does barrow jobs at weekends at a very reasonable price . I have always liked older cars as they seem to have a bit more character . There is a 1995 XJ6 3.2 for sale about twenty minutes away from me with only 63000 on the clock , full service history , 4 good tyres , 12 months MOT , 4 owners in silver/blue looks very well looked after . I'm hoping to get to see it over the weekend . It's from a garage and is up for £1995 . Thanks for the advice Jim , much appreciated .
