  1. take the the car for a test drive, and i mean a test drive! get the car up to normal running temp, then press and check all heating controls so hot inside car, down to cold. then check air con, same again hot/cold. all electrics should work! ? when safe to do this do a hard brake test, feel if car pulls to any side or judders? speed bumps go over those and listen for any knocks, squeaks, rattles, thuds, steering when giving full lock on both sides listen for knocks, thuds, squeaks, also check when cornering if any feed back through steering wheel, door seals as the car is 16yrs old and all rubbers! big one to is the underneath of the car RUST.... just a few things there to help. by the way nice looking jaaaaag.
  2. on fith gear tiff nidell done a test with high end top of the range price tryes and low end budget tryes, and guess what? the outcome was very surprising! even tiff was surprised too. so you can guess what tryes i have on my jaguar? if you have catch up tv try and find the program and watch.......
  3. that is fantastic to hear. with a good few tea/coffee breaks, ? may your cat keep purrrring a many good miles. again nice to hear, :-)
  4. ive never had this experience on my jag ? but i would first get the GEM (generic electronic module) checked with an OBD reader which connects just under drivers side, but get this done by either a jag dealer or independent garage that can read the GEM. which should then flag up what the problem may be? for me though i would start and check to see if ive got any bad earth contacts in the engine bay. good luck with this.....i hope its an easy fix ? ? !
  5. yes i fitted an after market front sensors on my x type, with a switch on/off and they work fine, been on car for 3years now. so i hope that has given you a bit more to think about. im thinking of doing a refit with rear sensors off a x type and replacing the front with those ! but thats all later when i get chance to get to a scrap yard and look for a descent pair with sensor box, wiring loom, and sounder unit.
  6. well i went to try and check my cabin pollen filter! but needed to remove my wiper blades to gain access. along with having to remove the plastic windscreen skuttle.. so off i went in me shed and made a wiper arm puller/extractor, some hours later i then removed the wiper arms and skuttle i seen the pollen filter which neededs replacing! but will do this when the car comes back after some paint blisters have been done on front wheel arches both sides, along with the rear off side too. plus a complete bonnet respray due to stone chips and rust blisters along seems. when the car gets back after paint i will update with pics of replacing pollen filter, ( old/new filter ) my be around end july. cheers dave.
  7. i agree totally.... if you are a bit of a DIY and like to try your hand at having a go? as i did, but lucky for me i caught it just in time as these photos show. drill with wire brush attachment then sand paper, rust treatment brushed on to stop the rust,( drys black ) then x2 coats of anti rust paint, then final coats of my builders rubberiod protective undershield which does not crack but is flexible. grand job done..but i always get down with a torch and inspect both sides on a regular basis.
  8. my next job on my x type is to completely drain the coolant and flush. then use EVANS prep flush, then use EVANS waterless engine coolant, as this will protect my whole system-water pump, pipes, radiator, etc, and also not over heat, plus it will protect the engine block too. and they say its for life! cost around £90....sounds good to me!
  9. andy, glad that you have found the route of the problem. or more so the mechanic!. hope its not to much of a cost? when all is fixed i hope the car does not give you any more issues and you can have some trouble free motoring...
  10. mine cost me this time with fully comp and full no claims, £143.86 with "esure" but i do just over 3000 miles a year... yet me little citroen c1 cost £154 ?? with " rias" sorry but i still think that car insurance is a BIG RIP OFF...
  11. sorry to hear of your outcome...but yes your right to much spent! hope you find a better car in near future, good luck on your next purchase.
  12. any one see top gear ? last night...had the f type jaguar on! think its on again tonight BBC2 .
  13. Electronic Turbo Actuator for Jaguar S Type. look this up on ebay and read what it says. if this is you then that may be the part you need? just check that yours is the electronic actuator first as there are two types?.. best of luck ...
  14. as for your ignition/engine light not on? does the car start up? if so it just may be a bulb! as for your cruise control it may be a very bad earth connection thats giving you different readings on the display. any concerns further than that you can get an auto electrician that will check switches, connectors, and wires? who also should find the problem.
  15. your drive belt links up to a number of components these being, crankshaft pulley, air comressor pulley , alternator pulley, power steering pump, now if what you say the noise is from this side ? ! check these first for correct operation. on my 2.0d x type i had to have a new crankshaft pulley plus air con compressor, power steering pump, new belt with new tensioner pulley. but i do hope in your case its an easy fix....good luck.
  16. great job there that you have done! and all in one day.... started on mine monday but the inside of mine are really bad so having to strip back to metal in places, just starting on primer now but waiting for drying process..."dry"..... got to go putting on another coat..
  17. one lovely looking classic beast, enjoy your jag and may you have many driving pleasures in it...
  18. alasdair, your right with the first photo and its the upper arm. the middle photo is the lower arm so again your right. and your last photo is i think your front lower arm. now your front lower arm has to be checked with the wheels on ground! so a garage will raise the car and do most checks with all wheels on the ramp before raising the car to check the rest of bushes and bearings. hope that helps ? and yes it may be your shocks? as kevin said was wrong on his x type. good luck on this and hope it all gets sorted...
  19. after being back off our holiday and taking the suit cases out the boot i noticed that the cover had sunk down into the spare wheel? after inspection i found that the cover is made of thin cardboard! and had split due to the weight of our cases. so off to the timber yard with my old split cardboard as a pattern, and they cut the shape to the same as the old,.... but i had 5ply marine board or half inch thick. then glued everything back, material was a bit fiddly to do! but also added a brass flush fitting handle. material cut out then recess out wood to fit the brass handle. its now easy to lift up and get at spare wheel.
  20. steve, not sure if the layout is the same on the 2.7 but you can sure get the idea of how it connects from this pic, this is for the 2.0 and 2.2d i did mine which taken about a day? pics of mine in my profile if you need to see. its not a hard job to do if youve got the tools.
  21. hi andy, i own a 2.0d x type on 54 plate. on my test drive before buying, i ran the car up to running temperature then press every button and see if everything works? (good long test drive) brake test hard to see if car pulls to any side!... listern to hear if there any knocks, thumps, squeaks, rattles, from rear or front of car. lift up bonnet undo oil cap and see if any slugde is present,( may have head gasket problem) other sign is coolant! good look inside engine bay to make sure nothing is loose. check all levels, body wise its underneath, sills and wheel arches. any way just a few points for you, and good luck.
  22. nice to hear the jag is sorted and back on the road, hope you now have trouble free motoring ian.
