sorry roger for the confusion of the word" unit" should say module. i do hope that they do a road test as the problem may show itself when driven? even so it seems that they are slowly getting to the root of the problem! just a matter of time. good luck on this and i look forward to the final outcome of what the cause turns out to be?

hi ,roger. on reading your problems its seams that the main dealership have not found the route of the cause to this issue? but performed a hard reset or maybe reprogramming, because after 3 weeks you say its back to normal. so when diagnosing an electrical fault, assume that no defect exits in the relatively (cm) control module. maybe a defect is more likely in connectors or switches initial diagnosis should concentrate on these components. as inputs and outputs can be monitored via diagnostic equipment, if these are proven to have no fault the failure may lie with the control unit. just a thought for you to think about! good luck,

s type alternators on ebay new, but depends what model you have £150 so get your spanners out and save yourself some money, or get ripped off by the garages labour charge. any way good luck.

when i i first brought my x type i had this problem! but i then found out it was my micro button on my key fob. so i stripped down the old spare key fob, removing the micro buttons x4, and re soldering the micro button it in place of the old one that was faulty...works no problem every time. good job done.

Given the car a clean and polish as we jag lovers do.... but also spray areas with WD40 to help the old girl which she loves, meter across my battery terminals when running to check alternator is feeding the battery ok, check all oil levels, (oil change not due yet ) brake fluid, power steering fluid, radiator hoses, (looking at colour i may do a complete system flush soon) air filter replaced, spray clean sensors with brake cleaner. when car is running i also take off the vacum pipe from the egr valve and make sure there is vacum sucking from the turbo unit actuator. visual check on front and rear brake pads,+ handbrake rise inside car. replace cabin pollen filter which seats under the plastic windscreen skuttle. ( along with many other checks too ) Then a trip to the fuel station put £30 diesel in along with my additive, and its a blast down the m69 and back home... runs fantastic the cat purrs well. :-)

that is nice to hear and very assuring, reads like your happy with that choice and will look forward to progress pics on how it all goes. if i must say that is a very good price too! when the jobs done, no doubt you will have grin on your face that will last longer than the paint work. lol :-))
-
now this is a good subject! how far DO you go on doing a paint job? you can strip the car down to its shell? but i think thats not what you what ! or do the labour intense work yourself as to how much you what the car stripped? or if you have a big pot of money, let them do exactly what you write down on paper as to what your requirements are regarding to removing parts, prep, paint, finish, otherwise they will do it there way. but think of this when the cars in there hands and your not there what do they actual do? i would have my doubts. you must give this issue a lot of thought and as joe says see if they have a good portfolio, also ask if the car was in having the work done that you would call in at any time to make sure that work is done to your requirements.

Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is located at the rear left side of the engine mounted to the cylinder block. It is used to detect the engine position and speed of the crankshaft. It is a permanent inductive type sensor. Should the CKP sensor fail, the engine will not start. if you have the diesel like me, best to take off the top plastic cover, then the air cover tube, then hopefully you should be able to see the sensor.

yes .... joe your right on that it is just the diesels that have the turbo, so sorry for posts :-( i think that it could be what you were first diagnosed with regarding coil packs and throttle sensor, best thing to do is connect it up to a jaguar diagnostic machine which should give you the cause. again good luck and hope you get this issue fixed...

Electronic Turbo Actuator for Jaguar X Type. it may be this but im not sure with the v6? but look this up on ebay and read what it says, some sellers give a good discription if your car is doing this, you can give it a try as youve got nothing to lose, good luck.
