  1. They are pretty tight if I recall. Think I resorted to pliers and somehow levering the mechanism so there was less distance required to hook it on.
  2. check the battery too - low battery can cause all sorts of warning messages to pop up
  3. There are a few compatible fluids, you have to make sure they are the right spec though to protect the box. Ravenol seems to be popular at the mo, or direct from shell i think.   4. If the airbag light flashes it is giving you a fault code. Long for the first digit, short for the 2nd digit. So one long flash and 9 short flashes means code 19 which is fairly common - drivers airbag / clockspring. The code is repeated 3 times. See what yours is and then google airbag fault codes for a list.
  5. I had code 19 flashing at me shortly after I bought my S type. Its definitely airbag/clock spring related as you say. Bet my seller thought there was a serious problem and wanted to part with it, but in reality i just took the clock spring out and cleaned all contacts with wd40 - no issues for 18 months now! As Lazlo said, I would check every single connection point and clean them up. Its a common area for dirty connections. Dan
  6. Does the fan kick in when the engine gets hot? Could be seized if it only happens when stationary.

  8. I did mine a few months ago. Fairly easy although there isn't a lot of room to get your hands in there and yank the old tank out! I suggest draining the system first or you'll have coolant gushing everywhere. Most important tip is to check the clip on the bottom hose when fitting the new tank - can look like its on properly but if it isn't it will ping off under pressure! Dan
  9. Check your battery voltage. A slightly low voltage might cause all of these symptoms. Check it when cold, think it should be at least 12.45v

  11. Check the top hose barb on the coolant tank isn't leaking - common to snap and you'll have orange coolant around the black rim of the tank.
  12. It's equivalent to taking a priceless painting and shading parts of it with a marker pen. Why?!
  13. Also check the coolant reservoir - they sometimes crack and leak, or the top hose nipples are easily broken so you will have orange gunk around the top rim. People recommend replacing the reservoir if that's the case. Dan
  14. No drips to speak of and no water on oil filler or dipstick. Yeah I plan to try fixing the nipple on the reservoir and if it doesn't hold just replace the whole unit.

  16. I bought my 3.0 petrol around a month ago. Its a 2006 done 96k full mot and full service history. Levels were all fine for the first week, but I did have a p0420 code for a bad cat reading, which has since gone out.Now I checked the levels again today and I had lost a bit of oil (gone from top mark to lower mark on dipstick). I had also lost some coolant (again from max to roughly min). I do 2 half hour motorway trips a day to and from work, and I haven't been pushing her hard since its a new car n all! I'm a bit worried it might be a head gasket :sI should point out that when feeling the coolant (it's the red jag one) it felt *slightly* oily - is it meant to feel like that or do I have engine oil in there? There were no visible signs of oil in the coolant. I also have the leaky top hose syndrome so maybe the loss is down to that.I have also been keeping an eye on the exhaustas during the colder weather I was seeing wisps of white smoke at traffic lights even though the car was warmed up. Possibly burning oil? It didn't smell sweet.Sorry for the essay, any help will be much appreciated!
  17. Hi guys I'm hoping you can help me. I have an 2006 3.0l petrol. I have a loud-ish squeak/creak coming from the front driver's side. So, thinking it's one of the bushes I grabbed some wd40 and started to test each bush one by one. Having soaked all of the bushes nearest the wheel and also the control arms nearer the engine, the noise is still there. The other oddity is that I couldn't reproduce the noise by bouncing the car with my body weight. I'm at least 15 stone and I was rocking the car with some force...but the noise only occurs while driving, mostly when going over speed bumps! Has anyone ellse experienced anything like this? I guess it could be the suspension spring itself but how would I test that? Cheers, Dan
  18. From what I read before buying mine recently the gearbox is the main thing to check. Make sure it changes smoothly and if you are able to have a look at the oil pan then check for leaks. Also ask whether they have had the oil changed for the box - it does need doing every so often. No timing belt to worry about on the petrol models which is a plus. If you have an airbag warning light it is usually a clock spring clean-up required, check for code 19. Common from what I've read and already had to take mine apart! Hth, Dan
