No problem Steve
I just noticed the cars were nowhere near me and then that there was a postcode in there, which I assume was yours?
I'm going to have a look at a 2.5 SE Auto tomorrow morning. It's not too far from me and seems to have everything bar a heated front screen.
Looks a good car, I'll put up pics, if I buy it

Thanks Steve I am constantly on Auto Trader and eBay looking for potential purchases.
By the way I would remove those links as, for some reason, the Auto Trader site seems to remember your full postcode :o

Hi Chris,
The x type is much maligned, especially by those who have neither owned or driven one. The engines on most modern cars are not necessarily made by the company with the badge on the front, as neither are many of the parts. Car manufactures buy their parts from specialist companies such as Bosch for electrical bits and other similar companies for other parts.
When the X type was designed and produced it was in the ownership of Ford, which was not a bad thing, as Ford technology is well respected in the Industry.
The design is all Jaguar although the Ford input was basically the body pan/chassis which came from a cut down Mondeo, and the engines are Ford, whose engines also power the Aston Martin, the Morgan, and a few other cars.
The X type 3.0 litre AWD is a very good engine and was very popular in the USA , and I used to have a 2.5 litre AWD which was a great car to drive and described by a journalist reviewer as "nippy".
The gearboxes on both models are good, and although I prefer the Auto Gearbox, my x type had the manual, with which I never had a problem.
You just test drive one of each and see which you prefer.
Regards
Peter.
Thanks Peter
Having got used to an Auto I would prefer one, I think.
Do both engines have a timing chain? I've read so many different things about them I'm lost

Hi Steve, no I didn't. It's a car listed on eBay.
I thought there was a separate light, top left, for a door open?
In the end I decided to have a flutter on it bit I was outbid

Hi
I am looking to purchase my first X-Type. I want All Wheel Drive so it will be a V6 Petrol.
I want some advice as to which do people feel is the more reliable engine and gearbox?
Should I go for a 2.5 or for the 3.0 Litre? Are they both Jag units or is one a Ford in disguise?
Then should I go for an Auto or a manual 'box?
I should add I currently drive an Octavia Tdi with the DSG gearbox, but a new job means I will be cutting my annual mileage massively.
Your thoughts are very much appreciated

Thanks David. That's about all I could find too.
I think I'll pass on this one and find another
Although in my current price range they all seem to have some sort of electrical problem or another

Is it simply telling you that the driver's door is open. Seems a strange light to me, with no image on it to tell you what it's showing

I am looking to purchase my first X-Type.
It will be an AWD model and probably from the budget end. I am recently separated and have limited funds, so it will have to be sub £1500.
I have seen this car on eBay, it has a light on, on the dash but I can't find what it means. Here is a link to the Pic
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
Chris

No problem at all Peter
Thanks for the reply.
My first choice would definitely be a 3.0 SE Auto but I'm finding it hard to find one in my price bracket.
I'm going to look at a 2.5 SE Auto tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll be the owner of an X-Type the next time we speak :)
